The trade winds of the Atlantic are the source regions for the formation of tropical cyclones. And as you probably know these storms sometimes grow into hurricanes which carried along in the trade winds may affect the United States east coast or Gulf coast. The sub-tropical jet often carries the moisture and warmth of the trades coming off of the west coast of Mexico into the desert southwest. These in turn can bring rains and snow to those states and to our mountain states as we observed this past December and the first ten days or so of this past month.

Do you mean "Why DO the Trade Winds affect the weather"?

The 'Trade Winds' are the EFFECTS of the weather and not the cause of it. They are caused by the Earth's rotation and, as a result, they blow from EAST to WEST and are called the "Trade Winds" because in the days of square rigger sail, those boats could not sail into the wind so they were most efficient when the wind was coming from astern... The trade routes were from Europe and Africa to the Americas and were responsible for TRADE between the continents.

All weather in the atmosphere is the result of a change in temperature.

wind, snow, rain, ice,

tradewinds are similar to the upper atmosphere jet stream.
they both have historically been mildly predictable as to thier position and relative velocity in the atmosphere at any time of the year.

the winds anywhere are a result of the pressure trying to equalize, which gives us frontal weather.
these winds move the areas of unequal pressure ( in fact they are an area of unequal pressure ) and move the weather about the atmosphere.
