I do not know much about cars I bought my Prelude in 95 and has been great. I do have the follwing 2 issues, and I am not sure if it is the same problem. 1) I constantly loose presure on the clutch pedal. I refill with Dot 3 brake fluid avery month or so. 2) I am unable to accelerate like have in the past. Especially if I am going uphill. Even when I am going at a decent speed, if I increase presure on the gas pedal the RPM's shoot up, but I do not accelerate. I have to give a little presure on the gas pedal, Cannot even press down half way to the floor before the RPM's shoot up. I am not sure if replacing the clutch is the right solution. Any information will be helpful. Thanks

I had this same problem with my 1987 Mazda 323. I replaced the clutch, and it works wonderfully now.

The brake fluid problems easy... you needs a new clutch master cylinder and slave. Always replace the two together, because 1-you will save a little money doing them together. 2- if one is bad you will be replacing the other one shortly afterwards.

As far as the accel. problem first replace the clutch problem see if the problem goes away. because if the clutch hydralic system is not working properly then it is possible that is could cause the RPM's to raise. If the problem is still there after the clutch M/c and slave are fixed then you may have a problem with the clutch/ transmission.

You have a leak somewhere in you clutch and maybe a bad clutch. A leak would explain why the car always is low on fluid. A clutch not working properly would be the reason the rpms go up but you don't get any power. I would take the car to a shop and have them replace the clutch and clutch line.

From the problem you are describing, i would suggest that the slave cylinder on the hydraulic system is leaking, which is the most problematic region. If your in gear, punch the gas, car does not accelerate but the RPM goes up, then it means that your Clutch is slipping which means its not engaging. Thing to do, is see if the clutch can be adjusted if not get a replacement clutch.

could be your transmission is "blown to dust." same thing happened to my 2000 mazda. hate to be the bearer of bad news but if its your transmission, its going to cost you.
