With no offense to others who answer, some valid, I have suggestions.
Think of this in a "Dress for Success" way, even if you've never read the book.
Certainly don't "dress down" but don't over dress either, and as one answer states something tasteful, but comfortable. Your Clothing should be the LAST thing that distracts you.
Be well groomed on all levels. You've already stated in the details that you need not interact with others, nor will you need to be in costume (which you should never be for an audition)
The audition in large measure is to show off your stage presence, public speaking skills, and lack of fear in doing so, and just a general way you "project" yourself.
Again, as far as appearance is concerened, you want to show them who you are, but it's not an American Idol Audition. Modestly dressed, hair off the face, but not so severe as a BUN is OK. BE YOU, be natural, be relaxed, but attentive and aware, be respectful to those who you are being judged by, and RELAX.
Also, please DO NOT take a rejection as a personal attack. It happens often, to many of us.

You should never wear black tights to a classical ballet audition. Like if it's for a summer intensive, most places won't let you audition. The classical attire is simple black leo, pink tights, pink slippers/point shoes (if asked), and a slick bun with no fly away's. Making a good impression is important. It shows your professionalism. If this is not a classical ballet audition, maybe modern, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, etc. You might be able to wear black tights. Also if it's a low key audition at a local studio then you may be able to, but console someone before because you don't want to show up being the only one in black tights. It's uncomfortable.

You should definately tie your hair back in a sophisticated and flattering look, mybe a low, striaght ponytail. You should probably wear black dress pants (NO JEANS!!!!!!) And a nice bluse or dress shirt. Don't wear anything too flashy and don't wear anything sleeveless. If you have a long sleeve white button down blouse and a vest, that would be great, so long as the vest looks sophisticated. Black is okay if you don't have anything else, but a color like a dark red a forest green would be wonderful. If you don't have a vest, I suggest a solid colored t-shirt under a dark dress jacket with a modest pin. Don't wear extremely high heels. Wear low heels if you have to wear them at all. I suggest some nice flats or character shoes if you have them. Black is the best color for shoes. Just try to look very sophisticated and competent and they should love you!

You should never wear a "costume" to an audition, unless specifically requested to do so.
Your dress should be "neutral;" you want to look nice, and professional, but bear in mind that the objective at all times is for them to be looking at YOU and your WORK.
Hair up or down? Whichever look makes you more comfortable, and whichever best enables you to fulfill the primary objective, which is to make your face/eyes/features available as you showcase your performance skills.

What kind of monologue is it? You could use that to decide what to wear.
Also, where is this at? Is it for school, or a professional theatre? You could be more casual if it's a school performance, but if it's professional you need to be...well, more professional most likely. You could also find someone who has auditioned before and ask them what they wear to them to get an idea of what you need to have and wear.

I would definately tie my hair back. Also, wear black dress pants and a low heeled black shoe. The shirt is more open, but keep it simple, and fairly business-like. Perhaps a simple collared shirt?

Don't wear anything distracting, but something that allows for good movement (not too constricting). If you've got a good body, you can wear something form fitting, so long as it's not too revealing and stil allows you to move. I'd suggest black, so it won't be distracting from your face.
ABSOLUTELY keep your hair back so your face can be seen.
