What if I don't want to buy the same brand of tires. I just need 2 for the back.

If you need only one tire replaced, the rule of thumb is you replace the two pair of tires on the same axle. This is because when you put only one brand new tire on, obviously it has a thicker tread and it's completely round. The tire on the other side of the axle is probably worn down a little and when your tires wear, they wear in a pattern. Putting only one tire on will make the van drive unevenly, and it could also damage the traction control system, all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive system as well. The van needs to be balanced on all four wheels. Putting on only one new tire obviously defeats the purpose of "stability" and a smooth ride. That's why you should never drive on a donut or a full size spare tire any longer than necessary. And the answer to your second concern, yes, they should be the same brand. That will ensure that the two tires are working as a team and not against each other. The tires will wear evenly and work together if they are replaced at the same time with the same brand. Hope this helps. Good luck.

you should get 2 new tires, same brand, and put them up front. you should get 4 if the other 2 are pretty worn.
