How about a pair of leggings with a shirt tied loosely with a belt and wear either court shoes or pumps on your feet. Also curl, back comb your hair to within an inch of its life. Accessorise with lots of pink/yellow/blue beads for your neck (au naturale do really cheap ones) and also huges bangles and hoop ear-rings in a bright colour is very 80's.
Make the most of your make up, bright blue eyeshadow is a must with lots of blusher and also remember to get some glitter spray for the hair do!!!

Go round a few charity shops - you'll find some hideous 80s outfits, and they usually have large sizes.
Failing that, buy a cheap pair of jeans (or use an old pair) and a bottle of bleach. Scrunch up your jeans really well - you may want to tie some string round them so they don't come loose - then put 1 part bleach to 3 parts water in a bowl and leave overnight. Wash out and dry, and that'll give you some horrible 80s stonewash jeans.
Then, either sew some shoulder pads into a brightly-coloured t-shirt or just buy some kind of brightly coloured top or jumper - Evans have a lot of stuff in acid green and orange right now.
Buy some very bright patent shoes from ebay or a cheap shoe shop (shoes are the larger lady's best friend!) and some cheap plastic jewellry.
On the night, backcomb your hair as much as possible and smear pink eyeshadow up to your eyebrows.
That should just about do it! Hope you like my suggestions.

Remember, Boy George wore lots of long layers. Also popular in the 80s were those long baggy sweater with leggings. Or make a fun costume, how about a Rubik's cube out of a cardboard box or a clear garbage bag filled with blown up balloons to look like jelly beans? Call them "Ronnie's Favorite" or "Reagan brand" or even "Jelly Belly" if you're not a Reagan fan. In high school, if you can believe it, 5 friends and I went as a 6 pack of Budweiser in costumes that we made ourselves out of posterboard and chicken wire. We went through a *bunch* of sharpie markers! The 80s weren't all about ZZ Top girls, just about girls having fun! Enjoy yourself!

or you could do a different look, as far as i can remember shoulder pads and sharp suits was in back then how about doing something like that ? think Oprah in the 80's she was a bigger size back then as well

I used to be a size 32 .....and i know I used to shy away from fancy dress parties.....( i am now size 12/14 after a gastric bypass)
Ermm How about wearing all black and a green wig with a witches hat .....Grott bags of 80kids TV

Maybe buy a ribbed tank top, and cut the neck out of an old sweatshirt. Find some neon colored socks. Leggings and cut-off shorts (or jeans, if you prefer). Wear LOTS of blue eyeshadow. Have fun!
