Yes I feel better that we have one
We had a sexual predator living in our neighborhood about 4 years ago and so I learned how to load and shoot one. Of course he raped a teenager on her way to her bus stop so he went back to prison but I am still glad to have one and know how to use it

I might feel more comfortable with a gun in my home if I lived in a bad area where the likelyhood of my home getting broken in and be getting robbed are high. Of course it would be locked up in something and out of reach of children.
I would rather have a dog that could protect if ever needed instead of a gun.

I have several guns in my home and my whole family is quite comfortable with them. We live out in the country and my oldest daughter and I hunt together. We also have occasion to dispatch pests and the occasional rabid skunk. Last but not least, help from the sheriff's department is long way off in case of unsavory visitors.

I would not like to be unarmed anywhere I lived but living where I do it could be unsafe and would certainly be inconvenient.

What's more, my neighbors, the few that there are, are also armed to one degree or another. Its rather expected and the undermanned sheriff's department appreciates that we can handle our own nuisance issues.

We have one real gun in the house (my boys have several toy or dart guns) It stays locked up in a case, and has the safety child lock on it too. I feel safe knowing my kids can't get into it, and it's there in case intruders invade my home. What makes it better is that I know how to use it, and am pretty dead on when I shoot!

Well, I was raised in a home that hated guns. My mother still hates them. My father had a gun but I don't know if he ever even had any bullets for it. Being raised like this left me conflicted when I met my husband who, being a gun collector, has enough guns to form his own militia. He taught me how to load, shoot, clean and use guns responsibly while we were still dating. We now have rifles, shot guns, muskets, semi-automatic guns, pistols of every caliber, black powder guns, American guns, foreign guns, and the list goes on. My husband and my son went hunting this deer season and got a ten point buck with a flintlock musket my husband made, by hand, basically out of a metal bar and a 2x4. My son is 9 and he has soft air, BB and pellet guns and a rifle that belong to him. He doesn't touch ANY of them without our supervision. Being raised with the knowledge and healthy respect for guns takes the mystery and fear out of them. If you really wanted to, you could kill someone with a butter knife or a pencil. They are just a tool and, like any tool, they need to be used responsibly. Someone who breaks into your house knowing people are home is not there to rob you!!! The question that I asked myself before I started learning about using guns was this: “If you had to choose between your life (and/or your family’s lives) or some criminal who broke into your home to rape or kill you (or your family) who would you pick?” My answer: The police will be coming to my house with a body bag for the idiot who decided to break into my house. Sure I would probably feel bad about taking someone’s life but I am not gonna trade mine or my family’s life or safety for theirs. My advise: Most importantly, people get killed with their own guns when they don’t have what it takes to pull the trigger. If you don’t then you are probably better off without one. Take a gun safety class. Keep them locked up away from children; but still educate them about them. A child has no reason to sneak into your closet and play with your gun if they know all they have to do is ask you to get it down (making sure it is unloaded and safe) and show it to them. Okay, I'm stepping off my soapbox now. :)
