Well...let me try this....knowing a person's gender is totally basic to how a person is treated. in research studies people who interacted with babies could not do it if they didn't know the gender. if there were yellow clothes the people tried to peek in the diapers to see if it was a boy or girl to see how they should treat the baby. boys and girls are treated completely differently by everyone from birth. so knowing the gender of a person is basic to how culture (and this is for all cultures of humans) interacts with that person. the problem most people have with cross dressers is that even though all our instincts tell us the person is a man (voice, size, proportions, gait, etc.) the person is also attempting to be a woman. there is a conflict because we don't know how to deal with a person who is both genders. only one or the other. there is a conflict created in our mind "is this person a man or woman?" It is much more than just clothes.
I am a gay rights advocate and i advocate for CDs and TGs and gay/lesbian/bi folks in the workplace and society. A crossdresser who can "pass" easily and no one actually guesses that the person is a biological male will not have a problem. But most of the time it is pretty obvious to most of us that something is amiss. And many interpret it as that the person cross-dressing is trying to fool or dupe us in some way.
And for sure they are doing something men are not allowed to do in our culture (dress like a woman). Please email me if you want to discuss this further. You must realize that condemning the person with the conflict is not the answer. Helping them to understand your feelings and why you want/need to dress as a woman is the key. YOu must accept that you will likely continue to bother or irritate many people. Because you create a conflict for them that they don't want to deal with. The answer is help educate them so they understand your place in the matter and why you would do the behavior.
