Ok I am 34 wks pregnant with my 2nd child. I have a boy and this is a girl. I got pregnant both times while on the pill. I tried many different kinds and none worked. I was allergic to the patch, and dont want the shot. I am down to either IUD or tubes tied. I always wanted 2 kids, and if I had another it wouldnt be for like another7 to 10 yrs. I dont know which to do. If I get my tubes tied, but not clipped and burned(can you do that) will they be able to be reversed if I want?

Suposedly the new Mirena IUD is MORE effective than tube tying or cutting and burning. It works for 5 years (you'd have to get a new one after 5 years). Here's a link to their page explaining everything. I think this is the way I'm leaning right now.

We are kinda going through the same thing right now. I am 23 almost 24 my boyfriend is 26 almost 27. We have an 11 month old son and I am 4 months pregnant. In November we will have 2 children within 16 months! I am almost certain I don't want another child but I feel that I am too young to make that 100% decision. So I am pretty sure after I have the baby I am going to get an IUD and that will give us 3-5 years to decide what we want to do. That's my thought on it. I know what you are going through and it's definitely not an easy decision. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you do, and congratulations on the baby on the way.

i have done and would do tube tying if your 100% positive you want no more. The IUD is not 100% guarentee that you will never have kids. You can take that out later if you wish and have kids, but an IUD is alot of complications with it. I have heard it is painful to have removed, and depending how long you keep it in it can cause scar tissue build up which can lower your chance for a successful pregnancy later anyways. I think tube tying is the best way. That is never 100% either, but better than IUD. Tube Tying you only have a 2% chance of becoming pregnate later on. which is rare. The IUD, you may do as a change of mind later in life, and end up with the same results, cant have a baby!!

I had a tubal ligation over 10 years ago and don't regret. I had 2 kids and I knew I didn't (and still don't) want anymore kids. If you're going down that route, make sure you don't want to ever have kids. I've met women that have regretted it after wards. If you're still not sure and thinking of maybe having another child in 10 years, then get the IUD. It's cheaper and easier. You can always get the IUD taken out anytime you want. But if you get the tubal, you're done. Even if you find a doctor that agrees to work on you, the procedure to reserve it is very expensive and not guaranteed. The possibilities of it working are actually slim to none. So again, I would seriously consider if you want more kids. Don't do it if you're not sure.

I have 3 kids and never want more im too scared though to get my tubes "tied" i did try the IUD and it was painful, and i bled a bit for weeks i also felt my body was being invaded lol, i now have the depo injection which last for 12 weeks, although that has made me into a basket case lolol, have a go at the IUD, some people find its a great option, plus it will be less dramatic than than sterlisation, good luck with the birth

I think if you have any doubts about wanting another baby in the future than you should go with the IUD. If you get your tubes tied it can be reversed but it isn't guarenteed to work and it is very expensive so if you think that you may want another one even if you aren't sure I would go with the IUD.

Don't have your tubes tied there a lot more complications then they tell you plus undoing them is never 100% effective and you insurance will not pay for it and it's usually over 5000 to have them undone, the IUD all so has it down side like infection and harm to you uterus, why not try natural family planning and just stay away from sex when you are ovulation and use a condom and a good spermicide

To tell you the truth....
Both are good to use. If you want to still have children later on in life.... you can reverse both.
I have the mirena IUD in and I've had mine in for 3 1/2 yrs. The type that I have lasts for 5 yrs. and then you could either replace it or keep it out.
I will be taking it out on Valentine's Day!!! Both my husband and I will be trying for a baby.
My older sister had her tubes tied for about 4 yrs. I think, and she had hers untied in Dec06'. She came out pregnant with twins.
It really depends on what you would feel comfortable with.

Well I am a nurse and my little sitter rhad her first child when she was 13. All I really have to say is if your looking forward having another child then get the UID but if you think 2 is just right for you I would get my tubes tied, cut, and burned. Please don't tell me that because I am still on the pill and I don't want any children just for now. So if you want to know further more please e-mail me at old_navy_gurl_420@yahoo.com
Just remember that the UID is in you for 5 yrs. Thats what my little sitter has and I am proud of her for making right choices for her family. Also they really don't tie tubes unless your over 21. I know this because my bestfriend is 18 with 3 kids and I am sure she will have another one because they wouldn't tie hers because she wan't 21

I'm faced with the same dilemma. I'm leaning more towards tubal though. I've heard good and bad things about the IUD. Talk to your Dr. about your chances of successfully having a reversal.
