If you were a spokeswoman/spokesman, what advice would you give to today's youth?

The problem with kids today is you can give them all the advise in the world but they don't listen to it. They think that they know everything. They haven't been on this earth long enough to know it all and most of them are just fresh out of pampers and think that they are smarter than their parents.

So my advise would be to close your mouth and open your ears!

Take every advantage you have of public education. Right now you can go to school for free. Gain all the knowledge that you can while you are there because after you leave you have to spend a small forune for your education. First and Foremost be true to yourself. Don't give in just so you won't be considered "uncool" because going along with the crown has proven over and over to have serious consequences and there is a good possibilitiy you will live with the guilt of it the rest of your life. Then I would give examples of kids that I have taken care of in the ICU who ended up dying or being disabled because of bad choices or doing dangerous things on a dare. . . . .choose your friends wisely. AND. . . .have a lot of fun yet responsibily. Soon you will have to grow up and have a lot more responsibilities so have a good time as long as you are respectful and are safe.

I would have to say personal responsibility. Being young does not give an excuse for not being responsible for your own actions. Stay in school and actually try your best to learn. You will not get far in life as a drop out. Stay away from drugs and alcohol, they'll only lead to bad lifestyles and choices at your young age. Think about your future and where you want to be in 5 and 10 years. It seems like forever, but push yourself to plan and succeed. Set goals for yourself. Before you know it, those 5 and 10 years will have passed. You want to be able to look back and say "I made the right decisions."

Great question!!!

Ok, here goes.

Stay in school and learn as much as you can.
Don't do drugs or drink too much....they kill brain cells you will need later on in life.
Have respect for yourself as well as others!(please keep the music down in your car)
Learn how to use a hammer and nails(and other tools) you may need to do something for yourself. Find a mentor that can also teach you a little electrical and plumbing too!(look into 'how to' courses taught at lumber yards)
Learn how to keep a clean house and cook(that includes buying groceries). And learning to do your own laundry as well.
Learn how to properly use a lawn mower, weed eater and blower.
Learn how to use a paint brush!
Learn how to maintain your car. At least keep the oil changed, and watch the air pressure in tires.
Don't be afraid(learn to like it) to do volunteer work. Especially help the elderly. And care about your community(please don't litter).
Make sure you can tell time on any clock..and please..learn how to make change!!

I know that is a lot. And I wouldn't expect them(both girls and guys) to learn all this at once. But I wish someone would have taught that to me. I didn't learn most of this till I got married. Thank God I married a wonderful and very smart man!!

I would advice them to stay away from drugs and alcohol, you don't have to give into peer pressure. Study and go to college, life doesn't get easier as you get older so it helps if you have a good and fulfilling career. Do what they want as a career, not what every one else thinks you should do. If you don't like what you choose to do as a career, it becomes just a job, a chore, so make sure it is something you really want to do. Don't commit to one person in your life till you are old enough to really afford it, that is financially and emotionally. Remember to enjoy life, but don't get carried away with the trappings of society. Treat every one equally with respect and love. Is that a good start?

Go beyond a high school education. A high school education is better than no education but learning should never cease. I would tell them not to reach for the stars but to be among the stars. And last but not least I would close by telling them to do the best that they can do, nothing more is expected.

Stay in school. Have fun with your friends. You don't need alcohol and drugs to have a good time. Go to college. Volunteer atleast once. Put yourself and your future first, then do something selfless for someone else.

Get the best education you can. You never know what will happen to you later in life and the more options you have the easier it is to survive the hard times. And value your true friends. They are irreplaceable.

Take your school work seriously. Your future depends on it. Don't rush through your youth and try to grow up too soon. You will regret it because you can never get it back. Choose your friends carefully. They reflect who you are.
