What a great question! I think it's partly because Senators and Congressmen sure like that "socially acceptable" drink of Scotch or a martini etc.. The liquor industry is a billions a year business and lots of this money goes into politicians pockets.
I think alcohol is so much worse as far as consequences and physical addiction. Pot is a mental addiction, but not physical, whereas alcohol is both. It is by far the most widely abused drug (yes-DRUG) in this country. But denial is not just a river.........
Besides, how many stories in the news do you see where "John/Jane Q. Public" beat their spouse or children because they were stoned? It just doesn't happen. But alcohol causes violence. Period.
The only bad thing I have to say about pot is its effect on driving. But nobody should drive when they are impaired on any substance, even cold medicine. LOTS more DWI's than DUI of pot, that's for sure.
I have kids and because it is illegal (pot) I don't use it. But I sure wish I could.
The only behavior I have when high is I want to: eat, listen to music and have sex. No complaints that I know of! Have a great day!

I believe that it is a conspiracy by the larger Drug Overlords to keep it illegal. That way they can control the prices more. I think of narcotics as an industry. When you look at it from a business standpoint, it makes sense.

Because it grows in all states year round like grass and trees. There is no way for the government to profit from that. It does not need processing like alcohol or cigarettes. It is far more profitable to keep it illegal.

I think it's ridiculous too, for lots of reasons. It's still illegal because A. there is no way to tax it, and B. there is no way to test if someone is driving high (no Breathalyzer for pot).

Why ? Because the law says so. Free doesn't mean that there should be no restraints.
If marijuana is permitted some will say why not morphine or coke ? There has to be a point where the people are protected from their own stupidity and lack of common sense.
My thoughts? I say if a person wants to ruin his own health he shouldn't do it the slow crippling way. There are faster, less painful, far less expensive ways to do it.
