I'm thinking Kim and Aggie here... (UK). I think if you leave bicarbonate of soda on it with a little water - or lemon juice... Try looking for their book because they really do have the answer to everything. My mum has it actually, so if I remember I'll ask her and email you.

strange as it may seem I clean my cooker hob with bathroom mousse from lidl 99p. a container I just spray it on so the hob is covered with foam leave for about 10 mins.and wipe of it removes all grease and burnt remains in fact after I'd used it several times the burnt ring around the base of the gas burners is disappearing I do not know about the oven as mine is self cleaning but it is great on the hob and no effort required

I had a similar problem. I bought some Mr Muscle Oven cleaner for my oven. its a mousse spray and you leave it on for about 30 minutes then wash it off. It works wonders and gets everything off. You might still need a bit of good old fashioned elbow grease as well. i find a large metal scourer and some ordinary fairy liquid in water finishes the job off nicely.
