I just bought a new laptop with windows vista. It's pretty confusing. There are lots of software pre-installed. Which ones can I remove. Also, how do I turn off the touchpad on the mouse? It drives me nutts. I'm trying to move the mouse and I accidently click on something.

You will have to make your own determination about which programs are non-essential to you, and remove them by clicking Start>Control Panel>Programs, selecting the program, and uninstalling it. Also in the Control Panel, you should see an item for Mouse, or pointing device (or maybe even HID [or Human Interface Device]). Opening that should take you to the settings for your mouse, or in this case the touchpad. Within that, you should be able to adjust it to turn it off altogether if an external pointing device it attached. Some drivers also allow you to turn off the touchpad while typing only so your annoyance would be taken care of, but the touchpad would still be usable. Much of this depends on the type of computer, touchpad, and driver installed.

Didn't your mother warn you about touching your "mouse" too much?
