Yes I know it's advisable to do it before you start showing and people tend to wait till the first trimester is over before making an announcement. The problem is I sit in front of my boss and suffer from morning sickness......

I guess you should tell your boss now then. The only reason people wait til after the first trimester is because of the risk of losing the baby before then, not for any work reason.

The advantages of telling your boss now is that you'll get more sympathy for your sickness and they should also make reasonable adjustments to your working life so it's easier for you.

However, as you haven't passed your first trimester, tell your boss to keep it quiet from the rest of your colleagues until you feel comforable to tell everyone.

The best time to tell is when you learn you are pregnant. This way you won't be counted down for running to the bathroom as often and your boss can start thinking about bringing someone in to take over your position while you are on maternity leave. If you don't tell your boss straight away you may find yourself in the unemployment line due to you taking too many breaks and they're not going to feel sorry for you just because you didn't tell your boss you were pregnant.

I worried about this too. Our office is very small and i had been spending most of my mornings in the bathroom, hanging over the toilet feeling awful. I wanted to wait until after my 1st scan at 12 weeks. This is also meant that i told them after my pay review. I didn't want to be treated unfairly because of the pregnancy and i felt better waiting til after. I felt as if i was showing although in hindsight, nobody could tell i was showing until i actually told them. In the end i was forced to say at 11 weeks as i'd been put in for promotion and didn't want the responsibility that went with it, and so i told my boss openly the reasons why. I had said i wanted to wait til after the scan to make sure all was ok. They treated me fairly throughout despite my worries and nobody noticed that i went out every morning to be sick! I was worrying too much. All in all, everyone at work was very pleased and you might find they are genuinely pleased for you and worried about it all too much like me. It will take courage but just go for it when it suits you. Once you've done it you'll feel better and can lap up all that attention! - as an after thought - my morning sickness stopped at the same time i told them so maybe it was a mixture of pregnancy, nerves and having a secret nobody knows!

Now is a good time. When I became pregnant with all my children, I always told my boss the same day I was diagnosed by my Dr. that without a doubt I was pregnant. This way There was plenty of time to find some one to replace me during my maternity leave. Not only that, but there is always a chance you may have to leave work sooner than expected. This way it will look better on your work file, that you gave your boss plenty of time to make proper preparations.

To tell you the truth your boss might already know. But the best thing you could do is let them know now instead of waiting till you are showing and they find out that way. The sooner they know the better you would feel and they will be able to be ready for when you have to take off.

Tell your boss now. You'll likely need time away from the office for medical appointments / checkups, and maybe even because of morning sickness. The more people around you know, the more understanding they might be of your situation.

I can see your dilemma. In your case, I would advise telling your boss now, so he/she will understand why you are not feeling well. This will also let him/her know that you won't be spreading your illness around the office. If you are not ready to tell everyone else in the office, just let your boss know that. I think your boss will appreciate your honesty in coming forth with the information.

Maybe pull him aside and let him know that you just found out, and that you would not like to make a big deal about it yet. Ask him to keep this info to himself, and that you will decide when your co-workers need to know. But he should know because you will have dr's appointments and I am sure there will be a few days where you physically just cannot make it in.
