I can't afford a Haynes Manual for it yet and I need to open the bonnet. I can release the catch under the dashboard but I am havig problems with the manual catch under the bonnet itself. I can feel the squarish plastic part that I think must be the catch but I can't work out how to manipulate this to open the bonnet - is there some trick to this?

I can't legally take the car out of my garden and I have no money. I need to open the bonnet to be able to get the engine block number for a SORN certificate so I don't get fined £1000 for not paying road tax for
a car I can not use for a month or two.
I have found the catch inside the bonnet but as I said before I can't find any direction that it will push in to open the bonnet. Is there some unusual trick to doing this?
I have had 7 different cars before and all of them have not had this problem.
The car is less than 3 years old and the grill is undamaged.
