I can't afford a Haynes Manual for it yet and I need to open the bonnet. I can release the catch under the dashboard but I am havig problems with the manual catch under the bonnet itself. I can feel the squarish plastic part that I think must be the catch but I can't work out how to manipulate this to open the bonnet - is there some trick to this?

I can't legally take the car out of my garden and I have no money. I need to open the bonnet to be able to get the engine block number for a SORN certificate so I don't get fined £1000 for not paying road tax for
a car I can not use for a month or two.

I have found the catch inside the bonnet but as I said before I can't find any direction that it will push in to open the bonnet. Is there some unusual trick to doing this?
I have had 7 different cars before and all of them have not had this problem.
The car is less than 3 years old and the grill is undamaged.

you ought to be able to declare sorn without the engine number just the regstration number has always been enough for me (i have only just declared sorn a few weeks ago myself) but the relese catch under the dash might not have relesed properly so give that another go as well

the owners manual will tell you, failing that the latch could be jammed through corrosion. have a friend check it out before going to a garage
