Suggest you buy C++ Primer 4th edition isbn 0-201-72148-1, as well as utilizing the resources available via the net. This book starts you very quickly using the STL library which you need to familiar with if you intend to become proficient at C++

Try Bruce Eckel's free C++ e-books
http://www.smart2help.com/e-books/
also check
http://www.faqs.org/docs/learnc/
http://www.ebooksboard.com/category/programming/c-c-plus-plus/
While you are at it also check
http://www.planetsourcecode.com
for some real nice source codes from programmers around the world.
I would suggest buying a paperback version of C/C++ books though.
