I purchased a fire bellied newt and then a fire bellied toad the next day.

I'm not sure why someone wrote 'no' without an explanation. I have 3 of the newts and 1 fire-bellied toad sharing the same 55 gallon vivarium (part of the vivarium is aquatic with fish), and have had absolutely no problems. So I would say the answer is 'yes.'

Never put them together. Really, I wouldn't suggest mixing species of any reptile or amphibian. A 12x12x12 Exo Terra could comfortably house two, and an 18x18x18 Exo Terra could definitely fit up to 6. But don't mix the newts and toads because the newts would eat the toads and then get poisoned so they would both die.

In a properly set-up environment it is possible for them to co-exist. but please dont try and cram them in too small a tank,remember this is likely to be there home for the rest of their life and needs to be large and kept clean
