My pick: TEXAS!!! Great culture, unique history as a former republic, friendly people, warmer weather, nice and thriving cities, diverse landscape. The taxes are a little high, although there is no income tax, and it's still a great state! If I could afford it, I'd move there now!

Second: Tennessee. Beautiful mountains, cleaner waters, Nashville, Memphis, interesting Civil War sites, thriving job market, friendly folks, true southern cooking, also no income tax, still a great state!

Least favorite: Kentucky. Don't like it at all...YUCK!. Sure, it's beautiful, but surprisingly, some of the meanest people anywhere live here! So, the economy is lackluster b/c natives are so closed to economic growth, and eastern KY is actually quite dirty. It's a shame I have to say this about my home state.

I, for one, love Kentucky. The majority of the people that I met down there were really friendly towards me. Sure there are some jerks but every state has them. NY, where I live, is the proverbial "rude state" but I think that is also stereotypical. I will admit that the economy is somewhat lacking but there are so many other positive attributes! The state has both northern and southern charm. The landscape there is gorgeous and weather isn't all that bad (compared to here lol). There is also a lot of American pride in that state and a unique culture. Every area has it's good points and it's bad points. (I love their accent too especially on the guys.) Besides, George Clooney and Johnny Depp are from KY so it can't be all bad =)
