There was a TV movie made in 2000 starring Wood Harris. A theatrical movie was in the works as recently as 2006, to star Andre 3000 of Outkast, but that seemed to fall through. He'd still be a good choice to play Hendrix.

Hendrix was awesome. His music was ahead of his time.. Check out the experience museum in Seattle. Nice history on Jimi there. I think a movie might not have mass appeal,but among followers and musicians.. I'm sure it would do well. Maybe an independent film maker might want to persue your idea. Playing Jimi.. How about J. Foxx.. I think he would be awesome.

Well there was the TV movie HENDRIX, where he was played by Wood Harris which is very faithful, and to a lesser extent, he was played by Gregory Allen Chatmanin the 1984 movie DOWN ON US. As for who could play him now? Who knows, but i bet Lenny Kravitz would like to try it!

i think there has been a movie made about him.
edited: i think it's called Jimi and was made around 95' or 96'.

There hasn't been a decent book to make a screenplay out of. And it would be hard to keep it from being X-rated.
