800 meter run is running in an 800 meter track(i.e.,a track that is 800 meter in length) probably to win

The 800 meter run is a middle distance event that is 2 laps around a standard outdoor 400 meter track. 800 meters is about 4.5 meters short of a half mile. Decent high school runners usually set goals of breaking 2:00 minutes for this race. Its a very hard race to run. You need a lot of speed but strenght to endure such a punishing race. The world record for this event is about 1:41 which is incredible!!!

The 800 meter is a middle distance race in the sport of Track & Field. It is a total distance of 800 meters or 1/2 mile (almost). Outdoor tracks are a 400 meter track so it is a two lap race out doors, and a 4 lap race on the 200 meter indoor tracks. A decient time for a male runner (highschool) is in the 2:00.00 range and closer to 2:18.00 for girls. Hope this helps

You are way off. You cannot just assume people can maintain the same pace as they move up in distance. It just doesn't work that way. As you run, your muscles get tired and they slow down. You need to read up on sports physiology. You have no basis for your claims. A 1:50 800m is equivalent to a 47.6 400m based on Purdy, not a 52 as you claim. I would expect a person who could run a 52 sec 400m to be about the same as a person who runs a 2 flat 800m (I am not saying if you can do one, you can do the other, just that those are "equivalent" times, you are in about the same shape and probably would be in the ballpark). Two notes: -The exception to the "maintain pace as you double distance" is the 100 to the 200, because the 100 is basically won or lost at the start line. You are not going max speed for the entire race, so it is feasible to maintain your top pace in the longer 200m. -You are somewhat correct in that most runners should consider running a distance up. If you think you are a 400m runner, you would probably be a comparatively better 800m runner. This is because high school kids are generally unaware of their limits and play things a little too close to their hands.
