ok guys, I'm not an expert in comic book stories, just the animated versions. Since I was little I've watched lots of X-Men versions on TV. From what I understand (and seen on the Fox version) ,Logan wasn't born mutant.. He was a man and at they took him prissioner at the lab and refilled his skeleton with adamantium.. But a friend (Marvel fan) told me that Wolverine was born mutant, so I don't get it.. What was all that lab incident?? By the way he also told me that "Logan" is NOT his real name... Yeah, I haven't read the comics, maybe I'm an ignorant. Don't kill me please ,but I love Wolverine character and would love my questions answered. TY :)

Ok, yes Wolverine was bone as a mutant. His original powers depend on the version of comics you read. All say he was born with the heightened senses and healing factor, but most also say he was born with bone claws. The experiment was done to him by Weapon X in Canada where they laced his entire skeletal structure with adamantium, which is a nearly indestructable metal alloy. His real name is James Howlette, he was born in the late 1800's. He took the name Logan to help hide his past and he got the name from a friend of his families.

The metal skeleton is not his mutant power. His mutant power is rapid healing (regeneration.) Another mutant feature he has is bone claws that pop out from under his skin. When it was realized that his mutant power was healing, they decided to try and experiment that would have killed anybody else, to coat his bones with adamantium.

They have never specified the process they followed. But I think what they did was to remove his bones one at a time, remove the marrow [which is necessary to make blood], and put the bones in liquid nitrogen which would cause them to develop a system of tiny cracks deep into them. Then they would allow the traces of liquid nitrogen to evaporate, but while the bones were still ice cold, dunk them in molten adamantium. The intense cold would protect the bones from being incinerated. The adamantium metal would flow into the cracks—reinforcing the bones at their weakest spots! Then, put the marrow back in them and put the bone back in his body,. Take out the next bone and keep going until you’re done.

In the comics, his adamantium was taken away from him in the past (By Magneto, with his magnetic power, just ripped it right out of him.) His healing power worked so much faster then! It seems as if the adamantium is working against the regeneration and vice versa. But nobody else would have survived the process of getting the adamantium.

So, healing is his mutant power, the (bone) claws are a mutant physical feature (like eye color or a big nose or something) and the adamantium is just a coating on the bones and claws.

Wolverine was born a mutant. His mutant power is nearly instantaneous healing, which is why he was able to survive the adamantium grafting process. Also he has a heightened sense of smell. His age is hard to place because of his regeneration, but I understand he's actually a few centuries old.

I think those claws (bone, not adamantium) are actually his too, but I'm not positive.

Wolverine was born a mutant, like everyone has said, and his abilities were/are his healing factor aws well as his bone claws.
Wolverine was able to survive both the insertation of the adamantium (twice) as well as the extraction of it (once by Magneto) due to his healing factor.

Everyone thought his claws were adamantium, but after it's removal, James shocked the X-Men and himself when he extended them from his hands (he even broke one of them in a fight).

Wolverine's mutant ability is healing. That is why the lab experiment to attach adamantium to his bones was successful.

His name is James Howlett, born in the late 1800's a mutant with healing factor and bone claws. Taken by weapon X his bones & claw were sheathed in indestructible adamantium and they implanted false memories in his brain. He recently regained his memories and found out he has a son.

Wolverine is a mutant...his mutant ability is his incredibly fast healing....he was put in a lab and his skeleton was infused with metal, he only survived the procedure because of his mutant ability

wolverine MIGHT be a mutant. right now in his comic they are hinting (dreams and sabertooth's comments) that both he and sabertooth might be something else entirely.

However it was his healing factor that he was "born" with, as well as bone claws, the weapon x project that modified him simply laced his bones with adimantium. The healing factor is what allowed him to survive the process.

he was born a mutant.....his mutant power was to heal him self..if he got stabbed... he would heal fast....which made him a perfect subject for an experiment ....to cover his bones in adamantium....it was his mutant healing properties that kept him alive through the operation.....oh his real name is James Howlett .
