Boy is that an oldie! The name of the actual song is "Do You Know The Way to San Jose".
The above poster is accurate that the music was composed by Burt Bacharach, which created the 60's signature lounge type music, with Hal David writing the lyrics. It was originally performed by our now Psychic Friend Network star, Dionne Warwick (guess it is a better gig than parking cars and pumping gas like in the song, huh?)
That was popular when I was a kid in the 60's and I remember my younger brother interpreting the "L.A. is a great big freeway" part to be "Ellie is a great big freeway" and, being from a small town and never having seen a freeway, thought it was a type of elephant and would sling it as an insult at me when he was mad, citing "you are a great big freeway just like Ellie"!

I taught there a few times, many years ago, but the courses ended, so I had to go.
I can't remember now, so I must say:
"I've been away so long, I may go wrong and lose my way."
I taught in LA as well, and can swear by far:
"L. A. is a great big freeway, Put a hundred down and by a car."
I loved that song.

Hmmmm....an obsolete song? In this time of Mapquest, would whatsherface have written or sung this song? Would it be like singing about a typewriter?
