I recently noticed a noise coming from under the bonnet of my Vauxhall Corsa. It only seems to happen when I'm going at around 60-70mph. It sounds as thought there is something rattling around underneath the bonnet.

At first I thought it was grit on the road, but I am having second thoughts, and it is slightly concerning me.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? I may well be paranoid and it could well be grit/stones on the road, but would like to know in case it is something wrong with the car.

could be a cover working loose or and engine mounting or your tappets need adjusting etc.....
Best advice is to take it to a trusted garage for a once over.

With any car of that age (though Corsas are among the best for clinging to life!) things to tend to work loose under the bonnet, especially at higher speeds.

See if you can work out which side it's coming from, then have a look under the bonnet for any obviously loose covers/screws. Chances are it's just a spot of rust, or a bit of hidden bumper rattling away.

However, I can't stress enough how important it is to get this seen to by a professional. You're entrusting your life to this car, so make sure any unidentified noises are identified and, if necessary, rectified. 10 years or so is good going for a car, but it'll be reaching the point now where minor repairs are probably going to be a regular occurrence; take good care of her so she can take good care of you.

The early Corsas had a plastic inlet manifold which vibrates at high rpm.You should be able to get this with the car static and engine reved to around 4500 rpm if this is the case its nothing to worry about they modified the manifold to an alloy one the noise went.Regards Mick uk

Why not open the bonnet..... Have a look at the air-filter cover. You could ask someone to rev the car while you have a look, see if anything is rattling about.

Have you had the bonnet up lately? If you have, check that the rod which holds the bonnet up has been clipped back into place.

If when the Clunking Noise occurs when driving and going over bumps it could be the suspension Bushes. It is a very cheap fix as they are only small pieces of rubber on the suspension arms. =]
