There are a few advantages to IE:

The first thing is that with later versions of Windows 95 until future releases of Windows, IE will always be bundled with it, so you do not have to worry about installation worries. All you might have to do is update the software to fill up any security holes or improve looks.

Another advantage is the low memory usage and quick start-up time of IE, this is a strong point especially for people who are low on PC resources.

Some disadvantages include:

Spyware can be installed onto your PC by websites without IE detecting it or giving you a warning. While with competing browsers such as Firefox, you get a warning that the site you are visiting is attempting to install software onto your PC. So it does not have the same security capabilities as its rivals.

Internet Explorer is not straightforward to install (that is, one cannot just simply remove it from Add/Remove Programs). To uninstall it, a complex series of instructions must be followed to remove it manually.

Hope this helps!

The one most missed is that, while Microsoft has done a lot in Internet Explorer 7 to improve security, they are the biggest target. Hundreds of hackers jump on Internet Explorer each day just to break it. With that much attention, you will get exploits that will be a problem for users.

Not secure as others (Firefox, Opera), not as flexible, constantly requires security patches, very large compared to other browsers.

Not sure of advantages haven;t used it for ages - see Firefox
