Before taking fingers to keys in protest, hear me out. Some friends of mine and I were discussing this the other night and two women in the discussion think the United States is not yet ready for a woman to be president. Finding this interesting, how many others (especially women) think that is the case, and why?

I really do think it's time to give a woman a chance, although Hillary wouldn't be my first choice.

A woman couldn't possibly do any worse than the men have done.

No I think it is very much time for a woman. We need a BIG change. Now you also have to remember the "woman" running for president isn't really a woman lol. She is "NOT" and emotional person, she is strong minded and opinionated just like male politicians. Now to those who would say a woman wouldn't make a good president bec they are to emotional and bitchy and PMS would not be a good thing just remember Hillary is probably about through with menopause so she will act just as a man would. I think we need new ideas and a mom. We need a different perspective running this country!

I'm not from the US, but I do keep up with politics over there, so I hope I may replay to your question as well.
I think America isn't ready for just ANY female president, but it IS ready for Hilary Clinton.
She gained quite some respect during her husband's time in office, which is a huge pre.
More importantly, IMHO, she's an intelligent woman, one who really knows her way in politics, (contrary to GWB, IMHO, he mainly "rules" by the grace of his advisers)
AND the public well knows already about what she stands for.

Over here we'd say she has a "clear head on her shoulders"!

ready? yes! will it happen? no! people will not except it yet. if the people did, we might end up with a good president. but then, women are very emotional in their decision making. this could truely hurt us. some things need cut and dried answers. then on the other hand a women would be a far better negotiator.

I'm sorry to hear that prejudice still exists in some places in this country. And I don't mean that as an insult to your friends. I think anyone is acceptable as President, so long as they're qualified, intelligent, and articulate. But Hillary isn't that person. There is a falseness about her that is apparent.
However, I would vote for a woman if I thought she was qualified, and also based on her voting record.

yes we are but not Hilary

i think the world is ready and i think it is needed
i think if the country was ran like a home we all would be happy

when a mother says no she means it

when kids get out of line she can give the mommy look and everyone settles down

she struggles daily to keep ends meet and not over spend
she looks for sales and bargains and does not spend on a whim

she protects her family to the end
i feel if the country was run like this we would the perfect country

I think we are ready. Besides, Hillary did a good job running the country will Bill was in office so why would be bad the second time around.

As much as a lot of the people think, "Oh wouldn't it be great to see a woman finally elected president!", America isn't ready for it. I highly doubt that she'd win.
Just like how its going to take MUCH longer for America to be ready to elect a black president.
Its a harsh world we live in....but many people just can't stand change.

Hilary ran the country when Bill was the president... I think she'll be just fine having the actual 'title'.
