I put it on yesterday afternoon and I wanted to know if it is in effect yet and if anything is going through my system.

Not to alarm you but there have been several "warnings" about the patch lately. I went off it for this reason. If I were you I would do a little research before using it. Here's one link...

in my opinion there are several other option that are better than the patch

Read the label, or the little "pamphlet" thingee that comes with the aptch. It tells you how long to wait before the patch becomes effective. It should be very fast. Most transdermal patches are.

Well, bearing in mind that the patch won't protect you from STD's - you should have it on for about a week if you are just beginning treatment with it before attempting unprotected sex.

it takes up to 10 days for birth control to get through your system. so if this is the first one you should use other protection or wait a while.

My gyn told me that to treat it as I would the birth control pill and use it for an entire month before considering it effective.

no you have to wait at least 30 days before having unprotected sex, before then you have to also use an alternate means of protection.
