It's a Superbowl/housewarming party. It's a guy that hubby works with. He's dating the boss's daughter. Both are around 22 yrs. old. Hubby isn't really good friends with the guy where they would normally hang out outside of work. But they get along alright at work. So what should he bring to the party as a housewarming gift? Remember, the girlfriend is the daughter of the owner of the construction company hubby works for. And he doesn't want it to seem cheap, inappropriate or like he's trying too hard.

Yes, the bosses daughter does live there. They just bought this house together. They aren't engaged. And I don't know either of them well. Hubby doesn't know him that well, just work stuff and small talk.

Because it makes it seem like you are throwing a party for yourself in order to get stuff. A wedding is customary to have a celebration for, which is usually put on by the brides father. And a baby shower is often organized by a good friend or relative. A house warming party is something you put on for yourself. And while people are generally expected to bring a small gift, it is ridiculous to make a registry. And frankly, no one really cares that you bought a house. Sure they are happy for you, but what did you really accomplish. You went to the bank and took out a huge loan that you are going to take a long time to pay off. Anyone with decent credit could do that, it really is not that special.

Hhm... for the superbowl party I'd whip something up or order and pay for pizza's.
For the housewarming part since you don't know the couple well enough I'd purchase a gift certificate to somewhere useful.

If you think this couple is of the sentimental/classic movie lovers type: From the movie "It's a Wonderful Life"
A gift basket containing:
*Bread - that this house may never know hunger.
*Salt - that life may always have flavor.
*Wine - that joy and prosperity may reign forever.
You can also throw in some candles, barware, or some other small but classy extra's. HTH

A gift card (25-50 dollars) to a local hardware store is always much appreciated by new homeowners - there's always something to paint or blinds to buy or something. If you don't like the idea of the hardware store then linens and things (or that type of store ) is also good. If you actually wanted to buy gift - white towels are usually a standard in anyone's house.

A plant a nice one is relativly inexpensive, and you can dress it up , with a nice potting pot, or a small inexpensive gift baskett with kitchen gadgets and towels sponges ect, you can go pretty much any where with a gift baskett and they are great for a house warming gift.
