I think he should sign a 1 day contract with the Yankees. Let him play in the home opener, start in centerfield. That way, he can have a proper send off from the fans. If he retires now, fans wont be able to properly say goodbye to one of the most popular Yankees in my generation.

The Bernie Williams situation right now is a tough one to answer because it all depends on how Bernie perceives the invite to camp. If he sees it as an opportunity then he'll accept the invite, but he could also see it as a slap in the face. Especially being that he has been one of the most productive Yankees ever, and in the history of MLB playoffs he has several records (hits, HR). I personally don't think that at this point in his career after all the stardom he is going to accept the invite. He would be relegated to the same position that a 22 year old rookie who is trying to make a major league roster. Its a shame that his career has come to this but the ultimate reason he's not offered a contract is because the Yankees signed Doug Mientkiewicz.

there is not any question that Bernie merits to be on the Yankees roster thinking each little thing he has carried out for the franchise provided that his first sport in 1991. He has been no longer something under a classification act and team participant 3 hundred and sixty 5 days in and 3 hundred and sixty 5 days out. Brian Cashman although, feels the might desire to have 3 first basemen on the 25 guy roster. In all certainty Bernie could play for the Yankees this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days as a 5th outfielder at the back of Melky. Will He? No. Bernie develop into already grew to become down via Cashman and the Yankees, inspite of their comprehend for WIlliams, isn't brining him decrease back this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days.

I think that Bernie should retire. Though - I disagree with several of the answers saying that he is no longer a good player. Last year he really came through for the Yankees when they needed him and that makes a good player. I think that Bernie and the Yankees are a perfect match, but if they no longer want to sign him with the ML, then he should retire.

I hate to see Bernie in another uniform, but i think he still have something to give to another team. Let´s say the Cardinals, the dodgers or the A´s. He can be a decent DH in the AL or a 4th. outfielder in the NL. He´s better than a lot of players that still have a contract, so, i´n my mind i thank him for the great years he gave to the team, but i let him choosing a job in other organization without any remorse (unless he goes to the Red Sox)

I hate to say this but he should retire. His skills have been on the downside now for the past 3 or 4 years. It's time to hang up the cleats and get into music. He's had a great career but with our outfield and Melki waiting in the wings theres no room for Bernie.

Retire from the Yankees and then go somewhere else if he wishes because I think he has still something to give on a major league level.

Bernie williams had a sensational career however the key word being had. As a williams fan, hes giving himself a bad name by continuing to play as much as i hate to say it.Maybe he can find some other minor league to play in for fun, hes not skilled enough to play in the majors, congrats on a great career.

I hate the Yankees but I like Bernie Williams, so in my opinion he should hang it up. His time has passed, he's had a great career and can land a coaching or sports casting job with ease and make far more money.

He should just retire. My favorite player of all time was Rickey Henderson and it was horrible seeing him going from team to team at the end of his career and ending up being cut from a team. It's not an ending fitting of such a great player, the same goes for Bernie. He's been such a class act he should just retire and keep his dignity.
