Purchased a few gifts for my children at X-mas. Of course they opened them and through away the packaging and didn't try and use them till recently. Question is: Can they still be returned with a receipt but without the original packaging?

Depends on where they were bought. Wal-Mart is pretty good about letting customers return stuff like that. You might just get store credit instead of cash, though. Since its been such a long time you'll just have to call the stores where the toys were purchased & ask. If they work ok..save them & donate them the toys to a charity.
