Will he be the key for the Yankees this year?

This may be his year. I'm hoping that he shakes off the boos and gets into his game. He will be clutch this year and he will lead the Yankees into the promised land. There's quite a few Yankees on this team that don't have rings. They all get them this year. This is our year.

I think due in part to the fact that it's an option year he may step it up a bit. I seriously doubt he'll find a better deal than he has now, but baseball is funny like that sometimes. Even in a "off" year he puts up numbers most players would kill for. I watched almost every yankee game last year and admit that even though he struggled in the field for a stretch and looked like a deer lost in the headlights at the plate on more occassions than I care to admit outside of Pujols maybe he's the best player out there in my opinion. Saying a guy is clutch is so subjective. he had times he failed in pressure situations and times he came through. Unfortunately for him he does it on the big stage and the press and fans magnify it and boo him when he fails. No disrespect to any other 3rd baseman- but at the end of the year who was better than A-Rod numbers wise? I like David Wright and Rolen is superb too, but ARod is pretty much the creme of the crop. I think when the season ends you'll see another ho hum 35-40 hr's 120+rbis, 100 runs, dozen steals, and better defense than last year. I'll take that any day.

They say the pressure in NY is so intense, that great players fail sometimes. Well, who puts the pressure on these players, mostly the fans, sometimes, the media.

So, I think it's fair to say that when the Yankees don't win, it's the fan's fault.
Anyone that boos a player(s) on their favourite team so much it causes a distraction and sub par play is an inhibitor to success.

The main issue that fans boo their team is that (for whatever ignorant reason) they see fit to expect their team to win. Not realizing that there are 29 other teams out there that also hope/expect to win.

If your child is having trouble in school, is your solution to hang over them while they are doing homework and boo'ing them?
"Come on kid, do you call that multiplication",
"My grandmother spells better than that"
"I wish (the neighbour) Kenny was my child, that's a kid to be proud of"

Seems pretty dumb, right.

So, if you are a yankee fan and you boo them when they aren't winning. Hold up a mirror and take a real long look at a major contributor to that losing. Congrats, now you are officially a Mets Fan.

That being said, Alex Rodriguez is WAY over paid.
When the Yankee's total salary is $200 million and they draw 4 million fans a year, $50 from each ticket goes to Salary. $6 goes to Arod, $5 goes to Jeter, Giambi, $4.5 went to Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown as well, $4 goes to Mariano Rivera, you get the point.

The one thing that Yankee fans should be thankful for is that they never have to seriously answer the question "If there was a salary cap in baseball, who would you keep" The average team salary in 2005 was $69 mil, and with only $69 mil to spend, the Yankee's couldn't compete in baseball. They may not even be a .500 team with that low of a salary.

Great team to root for, if you ignore all the obvious and hidden defects.

Go every team with a realistic team salary.

The money player he's supposed to be? He already is!

.290 Average
35 HRs
121 RBIs

And that's an off season! I'd take those stats in a heartbeat!

Plus, you can't blame the Yankee's post-season woes in 2006 solely on him. They have 8 other batters that make up the most feared line up in baseball and they couldn't produce either! And what about the pitching?!

A-Rod is giving you his moneys worth, just Yankees fans can't see past their own noses to see it's not him that's the problem.

I think A-Rod can be a big money player. I think it is basically psychological that he is struggling . He needs to loosen up and shake off the negative press. I know it is easier said than done and he got to stop taking the team on his shoulders and learn to be a team player. A couple of key hits in game 2 and the Tigers could have been down 2-0 but he put a lot of pressure upon himself and swung at some pitches that you normally pass on.

Was he not the money player he's supposed to be when he was winning MVPS and Gold Gloves? The guy stumbles a little and still has a GREAT year and Yankee fans blame the season on him and how he's overpaid. It won't matter what AROD does this year if the Yanks don't have a pitching staff.

Yes. I have a feeling he's getting sick of all the booing and insults. He's going to have an amazing season this year (I know this sounds odd but I think maybe an MVP year). I'm guessing the Yankees have or will use a final option of sending him to a sports psychiatrist and if he gets past the mental blocks; look out for an MVP year.

Remember, A-Rod has the opportunity to opt out of his contract at the end of this year. That could be incentive to have his stats blow up (although, last years stats weren't all that bad). Players in their last year of a contract tend to put up huge numbers, in hopes that their value will rise during offseaon free agency. Next years free agent class isnt that huge in terms of power hitters, so A-Rod could be setting himself up for another mega payday.

He might I think he has too much pressure on him in Ney York. But he is one of the best players in the majors. So ya i think he will be.
