First, I'm not pregnant yet, but my boyfriend and I want to start trying soon and we're already talking about looks (eye/hair color) though we probably shouldn't and no matter what, we'd be happy so long as the baby's healthy. I'm 100% Korean, brown hair/eyes, no non-Korean ancestry as far as I know. Bf is French with some German/Polish/Russian blood. He is dirty blond with blue-gray eyes. His mother is brown/brown, father is brown/blue-gray but was platinum blond as a child (as was my bf). My bf says he saw asian-european twin babies who were blond/blue though their mother is (or at least appeared to be) full asian. He thinks there's a chance maybe we'll have the same..? I think ours will be brown/brown (whatever shade) as brown is dominant and I don't have any recessive blond/blue in my ancestry.

First, I'd like to thank the people who responded so far (except a certain one). Before I receive any more attacks, I want to clarify that I would be completely happy with a baby no matter how he/she looks, i.e., full asian, full white or anything in between. And nothing in my question suggested otherwise. Simply my bf and I are curious. I welcome other responses, especially anyone who can shed light into the genetics and how an asian mother can have a blond/blue child (like my bf saw). Thanks!

i think you are probably right. without blond/blue genes on your side, your child will more than likely have some shade of brown eyes and hair color ranging from black to reddish brown.
please don't take this as a moral comment, but consider getting married before having your baby. otherwise, your parent's hair will probably turn gray overnight.
good luck and have a heathy baby!

The baby will look more European. Brownpeople don't have very "strong" genes. Meaning if they mate with another race they tend to get the other races features. (MY friend is half Pakistani, half Polish and her mother has chestnut brown hair and hazel eyes. My friend ended looking like a tan white girl with blue eyes that tuned gray/green later on and all 3 children ended up with lighter hair than their Polish mother! I have a few other friends like this.) At Asian genes tend to be the most dominant after 3 generations most genes fade out, not Asian ones, some who's 1/4 or 1/8 Asian (especially when white is the mix) tend to look full or half Asian.

Hey its all about genes. Some genes are dominate and some are recessive. Like in reality having six fingers is the dominate gene, but since most people have two recessive genes, they end up with five fingers. Just remember that every person has two of each gene, which means they can get a mix and it can be almost impossible to tell exactly what you might get. There are certain doctors and things that could to testing and give you an idea of the chance of something, but really you never know. Maybe your great-great-great grandmother has passed down a recessive gene to you that hasn't really come shown itself until you pass it to your baby. Looking at your family history can give you an idea of what your baby would look like, but sometimes you just get thrown a curve-ball. Blue eyes are recessive, brown dominate, but a blue eyed gene may have been passed down through many of your generations, but never manifested because the brown was dominate. You just never know :)

There is always that chance. It isn't a high chance, but the possibility is there. There have been people who have both had brown eyes, and their child come out with blue eyes. It just all depends on which of their genes is more dominant. And like you said, as long as you love the child no matter what....it doesn't matter.

Hi Nguyen, you really should consider doing what my Hmong girlfriend and her pure blonde husband are doing. They got on the waiting list for the adoption of a white baby. It could be any time for them. Why take a chance? What if it is an Asian male? What then? You can't just leave it out on the ice like in the old days. You would have to end up raising the very thing you despise. My friends I mentioned live in an upscale neighborhood in Boulder, CO. How would they possibly explain the crying thing upstairs that they refuse to talk about? Be one of the crowd honey.

My friends is a blond she has 2 children that are blond hair blue eyes and her husband is Filipino. They do tan very easy.
His oldest daughter from his first marriage has black hair and brown eyes and her mother also had blond hair and blue eyes.
I guess you never know who will have the stronger DNA.

basic genetics works like this:
you have genes, your bf has genes
just because you have black hair, doesnt mean you dont hold a gene for lets say, blonde hair. same applies for your boyfriend.

there are 2 types of genes : dominant and recessive. dominant is the "stronger" gene and recessive is the "weaker" gene.

Dominant genes are typed in capitals, so say you were curious about hair colour - since you are sure u have no blonde ancestry and you have brown hair you are BB
Your boyfriend has blonde hair so he is bb
SO....
the possibilites are : 50%: brown , 50% brown but hold the blonde gene for when he/she has kids

I'm white with light brown hair and dark blue eyes, and husband is Indian with hazel eyes and jet black hair. Our baby has olive skin, reddish dark brown hair and blue grey eyes. She neither has my eye color or my husband or anyone else in both of our families as its a very dark blue grey and mine are lighter.

You're child will never have any hair or eye colour other than black.

if you have blonde hair this will naturally get bleached by the sun in the summer. There has been this guy in my class who else had golden blonde hair that was a medium brown near the bottom. When he came back to university after summer vacation, it was practically platinum blonde!
