That’s a good question and you expect answers, don’t you? So, this partly answers your question.
Answering a question means to share or express your view according to your level of development and realization of the related topic.
As many persons are there so many opinions exist. Different opinions and arguments cannot establish the Truth. For getting perfect answers one should approach a person in true knowledge, who knows the Truth and inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the Truth.

In the common law, an answer is the first pleading by a defendant, usually filed and served upon the plaintiff within a certain strict time limit after a civil complaint or criminal information or indictment has been served upon the defendant. It may have been preceded by an optional "pre-answer" motion to dismiss or demurrer; if such a motion is unsuccessful, the defendant must file an answer to the complaint or risk an adverse default judgment.

You need to decide what type of question is in order to decide whether the reply is an answer or an opinion.
There are Questions of facts and there are questions of opinion,
For Example,
"Is Laden Caught ?", is a question of fact.
"Will laden be ever caught?", is a question of opinion.
However there are certain questions which are hard to judge, whether Q of Fact or Q of Opinion,

For Example,
"Is Bush Stupid?"

So here is my "answer" to your query;
Answering means sending data / information to the root of the query.

And here's my "Opinion" on your query;
Answering is something by which you communicate your thoughts / feeling to someone who wishes to know about them, or dont wishes to know about them.
