I see many unhappy Comcast customers, I wonder which other providers are available for San Jose, CA area.
Also, can I get internet and Cable TV service without a telephone land line? Since I have a cell phone, I don't need or want a telephone land line, but since I need internet, do I have to have it?

Comcast is the worst when it comes to internet access. We had it for 6 months and were "down" more often than not. At least twice a week we suffered outages that lasted anywhere from an hour to eight hours without explanation. I even had their "technicians" out three times to figure out the problem but nothing was ever resolved. All they could tell me was that the problem was NOT at my end that it was from Comcast's end but they didn't know HOW to resolve it! When we moved I decided to go with AT&T/SBC/Yahoo, we had it prior to Comcast without any problems and so far the second time around has proven to be problem free as well for the past 6 months. As far as types of service, Cable internet comes through the cable of our television, not your phone line. DSL and Dial up come through your phone lines...I have DSL and contrary to what Comcast advertises it is NOT slower than their cable crap.

See,BSNL is a company but the local cable providers, its just rubbish.See,if you will have local cable providers, you will face many difficulties. The internet can be disconnected even if you are working.I know it can happen in BSNL also, but in local service. It will happen each day.It will give you more downloading speed but its modem speed will be much less.It will take much more time to open one website. So my opinion,do use BSNL only.By the way,the speed of downloading as you said depends upon the plan. Some plans of BSNL can give the speed of over 8 Mega Bytes per second.Remeber, always branded things are better.Local things only look us better but they are just the opposite.

Go with Comcast, good price, good service. If they screw up, let them know. They are usually pretty good to fix it.

I have had em for 8 months now.
