It is a ViewSonic 19" Widescreen Monitor and it suggests settings that are not listed when I go to change the settings. Do I need a new video card or do I just have to live with it like it is?

You can go into video settings and detect display.
If it does not detect the correct resolution, update the video driver.
If all else fails, then you should get a video card.
I reccommend you get a nvidia 7 series, because the drivers are better. ATI's can be incredibly difficult to set up or update. I personally have an ATI x1600 and its been hell getting drivers.
With my past Nvidia geforce 6600gt, The drivers were universal to all geforce cards so it was fool proof.

You will be able to use the suggested setting if you follow the first answer, but in my experience, it still stretches text and images.
