NO...you do not have to be on your period to become pregnant. You must have to have had your first one. When you start your menstral cycle you start ovulating, this happens about10-14 days into your cycle or after you have your period. My advice is to use protection or abstain from sex as from your question you sound like a very young person. No one needs a child unless they are ready and capible of caring for one. Sperm can live within the female reproductive system up to 7 days so if you MUST absolutely have sex PLEASE use a condom or get on birth control if you don't want to have children right now. Being pregnant and having a baby should be a joyful time in your life and if you do get pregnant and don't want to be pregnant you won't enjoy or appreciate all the little wonders of this miraculous event. Go to your local health department or see your doctor and ask questions about it.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO GET PREGNANT AT ANY TIME OF THE MONTH, EVEN DURING YOUR PERIOD.
Ask a thousand mothers who were surprised with a little bundle of joy.
Never have unprotected sex if you aren't willing to risk pregnancy. Even the most effective birth control is not 100% effective. The only 100% irth control method is abstinence.
A normal menstrual cycle is 28 days. That can vary by person. It can be 20 days or 45 days.
Usually ovulation occurs in the middle of the cycle, but not always.
Say you have a regular 28 day cycle, count from day one of your period. Day 14 should be the ovulation day. Pregnancy is most likely to occur between days 12-16.
But this is not a guarantee. Women have been known to become pregnant at any time of their cycle, even during their periods. If your menstrual cycle is irregular, you have no idea when your ovulation could occur.
There have even been cases of girls becoming pregnant without actual penetration. If the sperm are ejaculated near the opening of the vagina, they can swim into the vagina. Talk about gold medal swimmers. They should compete in the Olympics!

Your period is when your womb sheds the lining of cells which are there to enable a baby to grow and develop if you were to get pregnant.
The time when a woman can get pregnant is when she's ovulating - releasing an egg from her ovaries - which happens something like halfway through her cycle (i.e. a couple of weeks after her period).
So, theoretically, women are less likely to get pregnant during their period than at other times. However, it isn't impossible to get pregnant during your period because individual women have different cycles, and you could actually ovulate very soon after your period.
I hope this makes sense and answers your question.

Your period will not allow you to become pregnant. Your period the the shedding of the lining of the uterus that the baby implants in to grow. Sperm can live several days so it never pays to take chances, not to mention the fact that even on your period you can pick up a disease. So always, always use a condom.
Then check out a site on reproduction, so you can learn more real facts and not just guess about it.

"The most fertile period (the time with the highest likelihood of sexual intercourse leading to pregnancy) covers the time from some 5 days before ovulation until 1-2 days after ovulation. In an average 28 day cycle, this corresponds to the second and the beginning of the third week of the cycle."
This means that your most fertile time (greatest chance of pregnancy) occurs when you are NOT having your period.
Hope this helps.

You can absolutely get pregnant when not on your period. The days leading up to the period are especially risky

It can happen at any time, however, it is most likely to happen the three days a month when you are ovulating. My advice is to use at least 2 types of birth control such as a condom and the pill to protect from pregnacey and std's.
