I've just received my N73 back from Three after it was booked in for repair only to discover that they've also formatted my phone and upgraded it and at no point did they warn me to back up all my contacts and calendar entries - now they're all gone! Argh! Has anyone else had this problem where they have not been warned that their phone may be formatted?

It would have been sensible to have done the back up before you took the phone in for repair. And if you could not do this yourself, you should have explicitly asked them to do it for you. Repairs to mobile phones almost always require a reset to factory state.

In future it is probably better to save all your contact to your sim rather than to your phone as once my phone turned it self and i could turn it back so i lost everything, i know how you feel it's gutting.

I think you should have expected that. after all they might have sent you a different reconditioned phone
