Don't let her have afternoon naps anymore. By the time after supper rolls around..she will be ready for bed. Give her nice warm bath and a story. I had that problem with my daughter. I gave up naps because she won't stay in bed at night. So she was able to go to sleep between 8-8:30pm. She slept through the night. My daughter is 4 yrs old..how old is your grandbaby?
hope this helps! =)

There could be many reasons why she won't stay in her bed. Perhaps she is allowed to sleep with her parents when she feels restless. Sometimes a big room can seem like a scary place with lot's of shadows and stuffed animals can be used to give her a more closed in crib like enviorment. Grandparents have a tendency to have spare rooms that are quite pristine and not a warm inviting place for a grandchild. Try to acclimate the room to a child's level and give her an appropriate nite lite. Don't just make her go back in there without asking her why she feels like she can't lay down and relax. She may just need to feel you close till she falls asleep try laying in the bed with her and reading her a book until her little eyes just can't stay open any longer If she is old enough to communicate with words then she will have the answer your seeking. Just ask her why! And by all means be patient and try to understand her reasons on her level.

do her parents let her get up
you just have to be strong put her back to bed
if she gets up again put her back
do not let her get away with it
it will just get worse
if she is afraid leave a night light on or door open ajar
but always put her back never give in
it took me almost a week before my son stayed in bed he would get up at 2 and try to come to bed with us but he did it so can she

Because she thinks she's going to miss out on something fun. Watch a fun kids dvd with music and dancing and wear her out.

to answer this question, I would need more information about your granddaughter, for example - her age, whether she lives alone with you - some basic information. Thanks
