Yep, it has happened tens of thousands of times (notice the numbers, they are still an almost negligible blip in human experience, and always will be).

If a person has this nagging feeling that he or she really is or should have been of the opposite gender, so much so that it is hard to live life in their current role, that is gender dysphoria. If the person has a deep disgust for their masculine or feminine features because of this, even to the point of wanting to cut them off, that too is gender dysphoria. If a person is a crossdresser and simply says, "Hey, it is fun portraying a woman", that is not, and real crossdressers don't want to make the permanent, physical change. If a homosexual is living in drag as a transvestite to advertise the position he or she is wanting in a relationship, then too, they usually don't want a physical, permanent change, because that wrecks the relationships, males wanting males, females wanting females. This is not gender dysphoria.

A person in this distress or even doubt can consult a psycologist or psychaitrist (who is also a medical doctor). After some consultations, perhaps some tests, there may be a diagnosis of gender dysphoria. The shrinks have a book of common mental maladies and this has been in it for years. Sometimes there is a correlation with events or feelings that have other solutions. If you are obsessive-compulsive, there may be common triggers or supports that when satisfying the OCD also takes away the gender change urgings or desires. Sometimes there are relationship problems, which when addressed also take away the gender change desires. But sometimes it simply doesn't go away. There will be a period of test transition that the doctor will prescribe--live in the other role for a time. If you still need (important word) then you undergo hormone treatments to get your body to adjust to the hormones of the other gender. You will see an endocrinologist and if you can't tolerate the treatments, or if your living role change isn't working, then the counselor will simply present to you the facts--it won't work, so you simply have to address the situation with coping strategies to compensate for your feelings. If it will work, if you can take the hormones of the other sex, if you can make a passable presence as a person of the other gender, and if you are so serious as to accept the permanence AND RISKS of the change (no operation is perfect), then after you've had a year or two of supervised transition, then the counselor and endocrinologist will sign off on making the change surgeries (usually more than one are involved, particularly for FTM). It is expensive and insurance rarely covers it, so you have to be more dedicatedly purposed to do this than most people are prepared for. After crossing all of those hurdles, then there are the legal aspects. Anyone can change their name, but the laws differ as to what is required to change your gender on identification. Even after the change, there are limitations. For instance a male can be recognized legally as a female in Kansas, but cannot marry another male, there is a person in prison today for just that recently, yet in a neighboring state it isn't a problem. In still another state a MTF married a man, no problem, but when the husband died, the children sued, and won, taking away the survivorship award of the husband's estate--biological children trump a physiologically redesigned spouse.

It gets complicated, but it is rarely ever done easily or frivolously. It is a very purposeful and seriously considered thing, normally done only by and for those with some potential for success.

Yes they can or some very close approximation. It is known as gender reassignment surgery and is very involved; requiring many operations to complete the transition.

So when it is performed on someone, they must REALLY want it done.

Odds are that they actually merely decide to maintain the rustic safeguard from terror assaults. i don't approve, yet i don't think of they even have some huge conspiracy. To Aldo - The cliche i decide to respond with is "merely through fact i'm paranoid would not advise they are not after me." it incredibly is not precisely what I advise yet close sufficient. despite if the government reasons for reducing corners on the form are incredibly truthful, it incredibly is a foul concept to enable it ensue through fact issues like that needless to say have a very good feedback loop. human beings see themselves as safeguard through fact of limited rights, government is greater frightened approximately destiny threats so it restricts added, and so on. Churchill made a controversy to the British leaders in the early Thirties, saying that despite if Hitler's reasons for rearming Germany and so on have been incredibly benign, he had to be stopped or Germany might initiate yet another international conflict. The reasoning is easy - despite reasons you have for taking a step, you reconsider your techniques after each and each step and alter your reasons. Germany might inevitably substitute into efficient sufficient to desire conflict if it rearmed, so rearming had to be stopped in the past that got here about. no person listened to him, and Hitler's reasons have been never benign, however the prognosis substitute into cogent then and it applies to this subject just to boot. despite if Bush et al are doing this benignly (I supply them that credit), it incredibly is risky through fact it instruments precedents, and creates situations. needless to say the conspiracy claims approximately Illuminati, and lizard human beings, and who is conscious what else are absurd (incredibly, did you pay attention that for the reason that 3 is the form of the Illuminati and there have been 33 deaths at Virginia Tech, the taking photos substitute into needless to say a terrorist plot prepared by the government?). yet merely through fact we are paranoid would not advise they are not gonna attempt and get us.
