Grammatically it is incorrect. He could say, I am having brunch. This is a combination of breakfast/lunch.Lunch is sometimes classed as Dinner or Dinner as Lunch. He may have missed his dinner the previous evening and is therefore hungry,so in affect he may need to eat the equivalent meal.
