I did some google searching yesterday and today looking around for FREE sites to upload data from my pc (folders and files of music, family photos, etc). There are so many to choose from so I want to know from someone who already uses this which is the best from their experience so far. These files are not for sharing, I just want to upload them somewhere for safekeeping and downloading for later use when needed again...I have so many files and folders as three other people besides myself all use the one computer and I think it would take up to much time and too many cd's to save them all on data cd's so I'm preferrable looking for a free site that will allow me to upload WHOLE FOLDERS to make this go faster.

Well, you really should take a step back and think about this for a moment.

First, you always get what you pay for. "Free" sites are pretty scary because they use technology behind the scenes that is not secure and not the best and maintaining the integrity and consistency of your data. there are a lot of "free" sites out there, who are nothing more than cheaply built solutions who are in it for making money off the ads they get on their sites. I've been burned by a couple of these "free" sites before - either losing my stuff, or it ends up being made available to the public internet user, or worse yet it gets deleted after 30 days.

Your best bet is to look for an online storage company who uses solid technology in the background, who can not only store your files but keep the integrity and security in place without compromising your files.

There are some existing sites out there that are OK for this. But if I were you I'd wait another couple weeks until the release of a brand new web site which has everything you are looking for. It's a paid service, but the things you get in return and way more valuable than the cost in dollars.

Don't trust your stuff to just anyone. Make sure they have good technology in the background. And if they won't tell you what they're using in the background, it's because they don't have anything valuable there. They might have a pretty GUI and fancy text, but you don't store your files in a GUI. You store your files on the server of the company you trust to store your files. And you're completely at their mercy to guarantee you have security and integrity when managing your stuff.

So before you sign up with any company, ask them what they use behind the scenes and don't sign up with them unless they tell you and explain to you how your stuff is going to be stored.

Trust me, it's worth the very little extra research you have to put into it.
