Both are correct. What is correct is often what sounds good - if you are well read and well versed.

'The rise in prices of commodities has lead to the increase in the cost of many consumer goods' is correct as is ' The rise in prices has been associated with declining living standards for those on fixed incomes'. Rise is more often associated with a singular where as increase is associated with plural. Both are correct though.

I have a degree in English for what it's worth - and I always think rise means to literally rise like a helium balloon rises into the sky. I think raise is better, but increase is the absolute best word in this case.

Rise or Increase. Raise isn't correct.

It sort of depends on the context it's going to be in.

Personally, I would say rise in that case, but increase is good too. Raise doesn't sound right to me.

I would use "increase in prices" if it fits in with what you're saying. I think "rise in prices" is also correct, but I'm not 100% sure there.
