My friend came to my house the other night and commented on how her partner had hurt his foot whilst goose stepping? She has said that this is the walk that Basil Fawlty used to do???

Goose stepping is the type of marching German soldiers did when changing the guard - it's a straight-legged gait while bearing arms.

It's not exclusively a Nazi thing, although they did do it. They still goose step at the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin, or they did when I lived there.

Like Forlorn says, it was a German military march, nicked from some other country, which involves marching with straight legs coming up to about waist height. If you've ever tried marching, you'll know it's a bit of a bugger!

Its the march, used by the Nazis, where you bring your entire leg up perpendicular to the body with each step (or close to).

almost; cleese did a parody of the goose step.. it was actually a phrase aimed at the german military and their style of parade marching... structured stylised and rigid.

its kind of taking the pee out of how the german army used to march, raising their legs right up high without bending the knee, with their upper bodys completely stiff
