I really believe it should be one or the other, a fine OR penalty points, otherwise I just see it as another way for cashing in!

I totally agree with you, minimum ban of 3 months and a hefty fine. The only reason so many people do it is because they know they can get away with it at the moment. The only problem is that with the prison situation as it is at the moment, there is apparently no room for murderers and paedophiles let alone dangerous drivers so I cant see it being agreed upon.

I totally agree with you 100% I can't believe how inconsiderate some people can be on the roads these days, don't they care at all or do they think they are infallible, only the other day we were almost crashed into by some stupid woman who was too busy having a conversation on her phone to bother looking were she was driving and she had the nerve to give us the evil eye like we should have given her more room because her call was important, it makes me sick and the sooner its cracked down on big time the better, enough life's are been lost as it is.

I agree with you - I used to use my phone whilst driving because i thought I was ok to do it - I saw a police programme on BBC1, I think it was just before or after Christmas and it showed the remains of a car after a van driver was busy trying to get his new company phone working instead of driving. The poor girl was killed instantly and you could could only make out what car she had by the vent on the bonnet. I think the law is definitely too soft on this and like you said the casualty's caused by people from using the phone whilst driving is very high

I am very against using a cell phone while driving. Many states in the US have a law against it, but not where I live. I'm just waiting for the minute they finally put the law. There are way too many people dying because they're too distracted using a cell phone while driving. They should get a hands free phone, put the call on speaker or get a phone with bluetooth in it.

i disagree with the practice, but then again i dont drink and drive either... in days gone by, when 0-60 took minutes instead of seconds, it may have been different. nowadays you need all your concentration... it should be driving without due care and attention... and that carries a prison sentence...

its a dangerous practice, and i see idiots doing it every day, not only do i have to drive my volvo, but i have to drive making allowances for these idiots... and theres never a copper around when you want one! we ought to be able to take photos of these foolish folks and get them prosecuted. that would get far more revenue for the govt than gatso cameras... my last speeding conviction was 1978... 70 in a 30... prior to that i got nicked for 120 in a 60... back in the good old days when you didnt get an automatic ban...

everyone is in a hurry.. slow down follks, youll live longer...

I would be tougher than that!

On spot fine - £1000 - can't pay - car is seized!

Caught again - £2000 - can't pay - car is seized!

Third time - £5000 - 12 months in prison - Car crushed and additional 6 points on licence and 12 month ban!

These people are a menace and they all think they can drive whilst holding a phone to their ears!

I do agree with you. I also believe that smoking whilst driving should be stopped. If someone was to drop a lit cigarette whilst driving there could be all sorts of accidents caused by it. People don't realise the amount of concentration they need to have whilst driving and that just taking their eyes off the road for a second can put a life at risk.

Everone agrees it's a dangerous practice but the penalty is too complicated. I'd say if the police caught someone committng this act the simple procedure should be instant destruction of 'phone by hammer in front of perpertrator. Quick & easy justice.

There are too many distractions while driving. Here in New York state it is against the law to talk on the phone while driving unless you have a hands free headset. This is a good law. The one life that may be saved could be someone close to you.

the law is different for these people!

is it important for them to be seen using their mobiles whilst driving - they are showing their skill in holding the phone with one hand and making rude signs at people with the other

to be more accurate they are holding to their heads the box their brain would be too small for

until these people are made an example of and either heavily fined or imprisoned - they will carry on in their own arrogant and ignorant way

'sorry officer - i was a bit busy on my phone to notice the old man - child - using the crossing'
