Having been given this anti spyware programme with my bt connection, I wonder how good it is. I run regular scans, but almost on a daily basis, it comes up with this back door trojan, which it then claims to have removed! WHAT is a back door trojan? WHY when I remove it does it re-occur. WHERE might it come from. AND lastly...is my anti spyware programme adequate? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP.

I found that Norton was the worst anti-virus software to use as it does let too much rubbish and potentially harmful viruses into your system and refuse to ever use it.
I would remove it and download AVG or some similar anti-virus software (download.com) which does a much better job.
Most Trojan viruses send out all your details to whoever wants it all over the Internet and can be very dangerous for you privacy and the stability of your computer.
As already mentioned ad-aware is free and very good.

"WHAT is a back door trojan? "

a backdoor trojan is basically a small program that allows someone to gain access to your computer remotely, this can be used to see what files you have or to use your pc to send spam/phishing emails.

"WHY when I remove it does it re-occur"

Norton sucks.

Get yourself Kaspersky's antivirus suite, its one of the best in the world, reasonably priced, and does an excellent job, it not only looks for known virus, but uses heuristic scanning to look for files that maybe "acting" like virus's and then brings this to your attention, you can delete it or leave it if you know what it is.

Norton is good.Trojans come in when you open some (perhaps iffy pop-ups from iffy sites) Keep off the porn sites.
Pest trap is one of the worst..it stops you removing it using the add/remove programs.Keep your pop-up blocker ON and only let in pop-ups from sites you trust.

I have norton and found it ok, your trojan will sit and wait for an opportunity to come in, have you tried looking at your firewall.
