I must buy a new Desktop computer & I already chose my specs except the OS.
Asus 1066Mhz Motherboard, Pentium D 945, 3GB 667MHz, 250GB HD, 256 MB video card, DVD R/RW drive
Do you want me to get Vista Home Premium or XP?
Price doesn't matter.

Since price doesn't matter I hope stability does. I'd say go for XP if you want tried and test technology (its been there for ages and we know its pros and cons). Vista is new and we don't know what bugs/exploits are lurking under all that jazz. Also, XP needs less resources.

However, I am sure in a few years, you'll have to make the jump to Vista as they'll make XP obsolete. So if you are like me, and want to be on the edge go for Vista.

Also you must keep in mind the intended use of your computer, if this just for home use XP will do fine.

That was my conservative assessment, however read this article for more perspective: http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_overview.htm

If you already have XP, keep it. Don't waste your money and make Microsoft richer by buying Vista which is a big joke.

If you don't have any MS products and you don't intend to use a lot of games etc. then go for freeware Linux Ubuntu. The latest version is as eye candy as Vista and above all it is free of charge and no hackers or virus infections (because it is not Bill gates' junk).

I suggest you get XP for now because you don't have enough RAM to run Vista, but do buy that can be upgraded to Vista.
When Vista comes out, you can always upgrade the RAM.

You may as well get the new platform. XP will slowly go out of date - all the upgrades will be for Vista now.

It doesn't look that different to use anyway.

I will highly recommend windows xp professional with service pack 2. Vista is still insecure and flaws have already been discovered which Microsoft has also approved.

Ultimate Vista!!

I just attended the 30th of January a Microsoft conference and seen it all!

MS Office 2007 is great! and Vista is great as well... It looks incredible and very advanced... and it has great features not seen in XP...

you also get great things like built in efax machine... You can send faxes from your email to any efax or regular fax machine...

you can also search files at a incredible speed from you start menu....

No more to say... Just get Vista and forget XP....

be cautious... Vista is very new...and most microsoft programs have a few bugs in it when it first comes out... even xp had a few. until the kinks have been worked out i would highly suggest windows xp...

Btw looking at the specs you'll have no problem running either...

Before you buy VISTA read the articles at:

Linux operating systems are excellent. Try out one of the free distributions. My favorite is UBUNTU. You can download it, or order a CD, at

http://www.ubuntu.com .

You will also get all the software, that you will ever need, FREE - See
