Guinea pigs are great they don't smell to much especially if you you care fresh bedding or something like that they don't eat much except their regular bagged food, carrots, and hay. they recognize you when you come into a room and they get excited and squeal and run around.

For pets the biggest things you have to keep in mind are:
The time you have to take care of them
The money you have/want to spend
The space you have
Fish are fairly easy to keep. Require little space, little attention and price can range from cheap to expensive depending on what you want to spend.
Going on to rodents, I would recommend rats above all else. They are smart, clean and require some play time out of the cage, but are very socialable. The cage can be expensive. Get two so that they are not lonely.
Dogs and cats are fairly easy. Food and such is not expensive, but to purchase them can be even if you are adopting. Vet visits can also be expensive. Dogs also generally need a lot of space.
We have a tarantula and also it is very inexpensive and requires no attention or really much of anything. (A few crickets a month) They are kind of icky. Not my particular first choice.
I do not recommend ferrets as a beginner pet or as an easy pet. They are very expensvie to purchase and maintain, vet visits can be costly as well. They require a lot of attention and a large cage and work to ferret proof the house. We have 3 of the buggers and they are great, but a lot of work. Ferrets are forever toddlers.
Good luck in your pet hunt!

I have pet rats. They eat virtually anything. I feed them cheap cat or dog food and left over food scraps. The are cuddly (the one more so then the other). I clean their cage about 2 times a month. If I have extra time I will give them a bath and trim their nails, but that's not necessary. I never thought I would like them so much :) Rats typically live 2-3 years. Mine are 1 1/2 right now.

Depends on what you want from the deal.
Guppies are pretty easy and they don't make a huge mess. They are not expensive to keep and they can be interesting to watch.
I personally am a dog and cat person (have guppies, but they don't do so well on the leash)
I liked guinea pigs, their fun, but can get a little stinky and can bite.
Rabbits are fun, but they kick out their litter a lot.
How much time do you want to invest?
I have never been without a dog or a cat most often have at least one of each.

I think it depends on what you like... I think cats are pretty easy to keep, they kind of fend for themselves for the most part, and come "visit" you when the mood strikes. When I lived in a small apartment and didn't have room for a cat, I kept mice, and it's been fun and enjoyable. I found fishkeeping to be tedious - I love having a fish tank, but dread the water changes, it's kind of a pain. A lot of people can't picture themselves without a dog, but dogs don't fit my lifestyle at all - too active, and needy for attention.

if you have time a dog is the best friend. but if you have no time or little time go for a cat because cats are more independent than dogs.Dogs like company,or a bird, keep it where you pass most of your time, feed it and keep it clean but most of all give it love.hope i helped you the best i could

it depends on were you live i say a chinchilla they don't smell and they are none Alergetic they live in a cage or you can let them run free in your house and they are easy to clean up after if you let them run free then just vacume daily if they are in acage then clean it 2 or 3 times a week . and you don't have to give them a bath they take dust bathes.
