Democracy is NOT the best form of government available. Being an adult as the only requirement to be allowed to vote, to make decisions affecting not only yourselves and your neighbors but the rest of the world, most people in America don't have an educated grasp of most of the problems they are asked to decide upon. Because they are just so BUSY, they let radio djs and former standup comics make their opinions for them.

Is a 10 year old genius who studied the issues less qualified to vote than some 30 year old guy with a 90 IQ who is more interested in what's on TV than ANY political issue? Once the masses learn they can vote themselves "Bread and Circuses", they will do that very thing (and HAVE already, in a manner of speaking; everyone knows about the Ohio legislature which passed a law, saying PI was equal to 3).

Fewer and fewer people vote in this country. One reason, is because of the axiom, "Nothing Given Has Value". No one had to do anything PERSONALLY to earn the right to vote, so they attach no value to it. Make them have to write an essay, do push ups, SOMETHING to make voting a more valuable thing to do in peoples lives and they will treat it with the solemnity and seriousness they should.
They say Reagan won the 1980 election in a "landslide". Once you figure how many people actually voted out of how many COULD HAVE, he only received a little over 23% of the popular vote. Less than a quarter of eligible voters picked Reagan to be President, hardly a landslide, but in total numbers he did get an overwhelming majority of the electoral votes..
Campaign finance is another big problem in a democratic society. Our candidates are bought and paid for before the public even gets to see them, which turns elections into a choice between the lesser of two evils.

I was a Russian linguist in the US Army, then went to ASU to complete a degree in Russian studies. In classes (I never got the degree- Russia rolled over while I was inshcool) I learned what Marxism really means: It just says that the individual person is more important in society than a faceless corporation or the government is. That's MARXISM. Russia embraced Marxism in 1912, then it was slowly perverted over the years into communism, which believes a doctor should earn only as much as a ditch digger. This is, of course, flawed thinking, as no one would put up with all the training and schooling a doctor in training has to endure for ditch digger's wages.
I feel salaries and wages in "democratic" America are completely skewed, but everything is based on "Supply and Demand". I don't say ditch diggers should be earning millions, but why the hell are movie actors earning so much? Why are LAWYERS? WHY ARE POLITICIANS? While teachers starve and soldiers' families apply for Welfare and Food Stamps to get by.

Does this mean I want to be a communist? Of course not: I cherish my freedoms as much as anyone. I don't even want to be a Marxist. I just want respect from the corporations stealing my money and polluting my air and water.

MY POINT IS---

Democracy may not work for you, it's not a very good system of Government, but it is the BEST system flawed human beings will ever be able to come up with, compared to anything we've tried as social animals already.

I would imagine that under the present system there are very few countries of the world that operate under a truly democratic system of government. The parlamentary system promises to be democratic but here in Canada a government is elected by less than 40% of the popular vote and those who are elected as the opposition party rarely get to say what they would like government to do for their voters so how can that really be democratic? Those that did lose in the election by a few tens, or hundreds of votes do not have the opportunity to represent the people who voted for them so how is that democratic? The Prime Minister of our country is selected by a party that is made of hundreds of people yet he is supposed to be our Prime Minister. I guess he is of the 3 or 4 possible choices from the other parties but he was not elected by the chosen representatives of the people after the election was held but he automatically becomes the Prime Minister, how is that democratic? Your system could work perfectly for your country but who is saying it is perfect, the rich, the politicians themselves or the people? Democracy is letting the people decide and is akin to a free choice for individuals. The majority should rule but not entirely doing so by excluding those not in the majority but also considering the well being of the minority, this is what democracy should be about but there are few countries in the world that have a true democracy and the USA is not one of them despite the claims made by George W. Bush.

Democracy is usually the best system for advancement. Other system that are in use today lead to a violent repressed citizenship..While in a democracy the citizens will generally aim their ire at their own government and seek reform in other systems this is not allowed so an outside source is always needed to keep the citizens from revolt. Cuba blames the U.S.,The mid-east Theocracies and semi-dictatorial and Monarchies blame Israel and the decadence of the west. With out a scapegoat all other systems fail or descend into brutality.

All systems of rule have their problems.....If you have a better system, and can incorporate it..go for it..the major hurdle you will have to face is how to represent all the people in your country...a representative democracy is what is working best right now. Most people are represented and even the minority has a voice in the law of the land...I would like to here what your alternative is.

Each nation has the right to choose its own form of government. Americans are arrogant to think every country should be like ours. Some countries work better as Socialists, Monarchies, Military States, etc. I say to each his own.

I highly doubt that putting the people in charge of who's in the government is better. I'd like to hear what you have to say.

No. We can no more push our beliefs down the throats of the people of the middle-east than they can push their religious beliefs down ours. Religion around the world has gotten out of hand. People killing each other in the name of God. How sick is that?
