Hello there and congratulations on your pregnancy! This is such an exciting time in your life and you have SO much to look forward to! Pregnancy should be a joyous time in your life and not one full of restrictions and rules.
Of course there are some things that you just must not do if you want to have a healty baby, and I know that is your ultimate goal. Smoking and drinking alcohol are out, but then that is not what you asked about.
Caffeine in moderate amounts will not hurt your baby. By moderate I mean one or two cups of coffee in the morning, or one caffeinated soda a day. The real danger with the soda, as much as the caffeine in it is the fact that you are choosing a beverage that is totally lacking in any nutritional value when you could be making a much better choice for your baby. You have increased nutritional needs that are not met entirely by your prenatal vitamins. From now until the time that you are no longer nursing your new baby you will need extra fluids in your diet and soda is a truly awful choice. Even tea, especially green tea, would be better for you. There is a tremendous amount of sugar in soda also, you would be amazed at how much. Not to mention all the empty calories that are there. So many things are so much better for you.....I hate to say this but a glass of milk really has wonderful things in it for you and your baby. The calcium is wonderful for you and important for your baby. Fruit juice in an excellent thing for you to drink also, make sure it is the real thing and not just flavored water. Look at it this way, if you have just so many calories a day to "spend" you are spending WAY too much to have that soda. You could spend your calories somewhere else. So budget your calories!
You have not done any harm to your baby, please don't think that I am saying that. All I am saying is that the choices you make for you and your baby can be SO much better than that! It is up to you to decide what your baby is getting everytime you take a bite or a drink of something. Ask yourself, what am I giving my baby when I do this? If you are not happy with the answer, don't do it! Of course sometimes the answer to that question is "a treat!" and that is okay once in awhile too!
Again, congratulations on your pregnancy. Take care of yourself and remember the best thing you can do right now for your baby is to take good care of YOU! Rest and eat well!
See your doctor soon if you have not already and start getting the right amounts of Folic Acid that you need...VERY important.
Love and Blessings

Avoid caffeine defiantly. There are sites you can see recommended allowances I think it's 6 can of soda a day but I'm not sure about coffee. My mom drank soda and coffee a lot with my older brother and about a week after he was born he got the shakes from caffeine withdrawal. My mom said she felt so bad for him because all he would do was shake and had some troubles sleeping. This only last a few days but still. It also can effect them mentally. Here's a link to one of those sites I was talking about.

There is NO proof of this, with both of my girls I drank sodas and towards the end with my second, I always had a glass of tea in my hand and was drinking probably about 7-8 glasses of tea a day, and my girls are so healthy and right on track. My ob knew that I was "addicted" to caffeine and said that they don't recommend lots of caffeine during pregnancy, but you don't have to cut it out of your diet completely. I am 12 weeks now and I think that tea is better than soda but I do still drink my soda. I drink like a gallon of sweet tea in about a day in a half. You can talk to your doctor about it, but they have no straight forward proof of caffeine causing any harm or birth defects.

You really arent meant to drink sodas etc that contain high levels of caffeine. A lot of women drink them though at the start of the pregnancy without even knowing their pregnant, just knowing that they are tired all of the time and hoping that something will pep them up. I was drinking loads of Red Bull before i knew i was pregnant, and was scared after finding out. The clinics do say that women should cut down and not worry too much about the caffeine as long as they cut it out of down.
So try not to worry about it.

Keep your caffine intake to less than 300 mg. You should try to not drink coffee/soda every day. Don't drink diet sodas the Aspertime is bad for the baby.

I didn`t give up coffee, I just cut back some..I would drink like 2 cups but I didn`t drink it but maybe 3 times a week..I never have been big on soda though, so not drinking it wasn`t a problem..My thing was Iced Tea, so I switched to a decaffeinated brand...Good luck!!

Doctors recommend not having any caffeinated drinks because the caffeine can interfere with vitamin and mineral absorption which is not good for your baby or you. Soda also often replaces water and it is very important to stay well hydrated. My obgyn told me I could have my morning cup of coffee but nothing else. Moderation is the key here.

According to the article (link below) that just came out a recent study showed that woman who drank 3 or more cups of coffee a day did not have any different pregnancies than woman who cut it out completely.
I am 22 weeks 3 days, my OB/GYN said I am fine drinking one or two cans of Diet Coke or a cup or 2 of coffee daily. Ask your doc to be sure in case you have a special situation.

I am not a Dr. but, I do know that I have had four kids and I am pregnant with my fifth and I drank pop while I was pregnant with all of them.My Dr. asked me yesterday if I was drinking plenty of water and I told him I am trying to but I don't like water and I told him that I was drinking pop and he said as long as I was getting water and milk in there that was fine. It is said to cut back on caffeine as much as possible but, your not going to have any birth defects or problems because of drinking some pop or a cup of coffee here or there.
