Democracy has been the dream of brilliant thinkers from centuries, starting from Aristotle the Greek philosopher. But it came into reality from 1775 A.D. And now America being the first Democratic Nation and India being the Largest Democracy in the world, it has not been sucessful in leading the nations into peace and progress. Instead it has resulted in domination, spread of violence war and arrogance. And in the Indian context, it is an exploitative and corrupt system of governance. It lacks good leaders. And in practice lacks ethical values and standerds, democratical principles and protection of human rights and dignity. It is a weapon of exploitation in the hands of the natorious politicians, the powerful, the rich, capitalists, criminals and the list may not end. Who is responsible for such status of Democracy in India. Is the system itself or the Indian population is not mature enough to elect and run a democratical government true to its standards. Are there philosohers

When there is a river and when there is good rains on the mountains, the flow of water would be clean and nice, but people would wash their unclean clothes and factories would leave pollution to the river.
Democracy is supported by the dedication of people. Not mere people, but those who are interested in the growth of the nation. It is since long the parts of the river got hindered and there is no flow (like Great River Nile). Many took the sand for construction and depth was increased - of the River Democracy. Every system or everything has to transform from time to time, is the characteristics of the universe. We did not open better doors for the flow. Thus, you see the failure of the old construction. Without repair and maintenance, is there anything that would exist on earth. Let us think of a new 'cracy' with a new name. Let us introduce with strict control of the emotional freedom of people. We did fight for about 100 years for India's freedom since 1857- in other Nations also - and the fruits of the efforts of our forefathers are our food now. The plants and seeds we sow, would ripe for the next generation. Sow it now.. Don't think democracy is a failure or a failure in India. (In other words) Democracy has become old and his children are with us - you and me.

As we grow older, we change both physically, mentally and emotionally, which helps us in our future. As they say, change is the part of the environment.

Whereas, our constitution is as old as the origin of our country, that was made keeping in mind the people of bygone ages. Unfortunately, the british defined our constitution before living India.

We are a nation of morons, who does'nt know what we are living for. We have been ruled for more than 1000 years by different invaders and we are used to that lifestyle. We are used to orders from others. We don't have the initiative in our own self to do something extraordinary.

Unfortunately, we will be celebrating 60 years of independence, but we are not independent from our creepy emotions. Emotions of being jealous of others, hatred etc. We are just fighting among ourselves and pulling each others leg, because of which the country is not progressing as a whole.

Sometimes, i thinks it would have been much better under the british rule. Atleast they eradicated so many social superstitions, like sati, female infoeticide etc. Also, they had built all the rail-roads, roads etc that interconnects our country. That period was a blessing in disguise.

Now, our progress is so static. Everybody is so selfcentered. On top of that, the ******* government has crippled country completely. We call ourselves a democratic country, but we can't express ourselves freely in our own country.

God bless India.

I share your anxiety about the failure of democracy in India. We could hold our head with pride, when we became Independent. Our freedom struggle was unique and we can be rightly proud of our leaders, who struggled for Independence. But, just before we got freedom, and immediately thereafter, a pall of gloom and diffidence had set in. The confusion that came with Independence, what with the religious turmoil, and the communal conflagration that is not yet extinguished has took the initiative for development away from our leaders. Creation of Pakistan on either side of our border has proved to be a thorn in our flesh. Our politicians have also lost the sheen of idealism, that drove them to struggle for freedom. Selfishness has replaced the sense of sacrifice. Now criminalisation of politics has become total. We have reached a point of no return. It requires another very big movement, possibly powered by the youth power, to cleanse the political system. The entire social matrix needs a thorough overhaul. As J.P. started the Bihar movement with a clarion call for 'total revolution', we need to prepare the youth for a complete revolution, so as to arrest the slide in our political and social life.

We all are in a habit to live in the colony. We have been practised to salute the king every morning since last 100 generations. How can we understand democracy !!
We are afraid of foreigners. Even if the foreigner is from Ethiopia.
I remember seen a photo of our leader with the President of Venezuela. Our leader was standing just like a crippled man when the leader of Venezuela was standing with proud and pride.
In our country we select our leaders from the so called King's families only. For example - lets not remind it - every one knows who became prime minister after assassination.
We are hero inside our home and afraid of talking in front of a little powerful man. I have seen a man shouting on a bus driver after getting down from bus and holding his wife's hand firmly "If my wife releases me I would kill you"
We love to be dominated.
Endless similar reasons. Let me not make the reply bigger.

One does not judge a Governing system, in a span of 55 years. A country for 1000s of years has been a monarchy and has switched to Democracy only in 1950. Talking of America, you are forgetting the history when there were regular fights within the country, in the initial stages. Even today, after 4 centuries of Democracy, it has not given equal rights to Blacks. Blacks and colored are treated badly. Till today there has been no Black or Women head of state. Our Indian friends rather than defending the country are singing your tune. I wonder, if they are part of Indian Democracy and understand it.

the greatest reason for the failure of democracy in our country is the large amount of uneducated population. 65% of our population being illiterate, fall prey to the traps of the ministers. moreover bcoz they dont know to read and write, these people usually tick for any candidate without any knowledge. moreover the gangsters and mafias also get a chance over par due to the weak and poor condition of our countrymen. for a country to be a successful democratic nation, it should have at least 80% of the population literate.

May be because people do not know the true meaning of democracy. The social system and overall set up at the stake of common man gives out anti democratic tunes. Democratic instruments are used to maintain status quo with regard to traditional kinds of unequal, immoral, unethical and unjust system leading into increased level of sinister and criminal acts. Democracy should not assemble together and organise diff rent evil points to prey on the common man. Traditional evil systems are incompatible to democratic settlements which destabilise and criminalise the whole system. It is no one's fault as everyone is basically good by heart but wrong systems force them adopt wrong tracks. I think leaders have all capabilities and qualities and it is for the people to make their proper use. Everybody ask the leader to do certain jobs out of the way just to go ahead of the others by unfair means. People do unfair competition by unfair means but blame leaders and others for failure of democracy. It is therefore necessary that people needs to change themselves and there is no reason for collective noble wisdom not to prevail over evil thoughts and actions on account of evil systems.
