what are they - what do they do ? I have them on a Toyota Carolla TwinCam.

extractors are aftermarket exhausts that have a larger capacity to extract air from the engine so the engine can breathe more freely. they will give your car more power. so if you ran into another corolla the same as yours without extractors, yours would beat it in a race.

This is just another name for headers - the theory is that the exhaust pulse through the pipe - and more importantly, the low pressure that follows the pulse - will help suck the next cylinder's exhaust gases into the pipe - thus "extracting" the exhaust.
