A nickname can't be forced. As you spend more time with her and more of her personality emerges, you'll find yourself calling her different things. If not, it wasn't meant to be. She's only 5 months old. IT isn't likely she'd remember a nickname at this point anyway--you have time. There are far worse things than not having a nickname for your child.

A name reflects on a person's personality.
Call her by her actual name and do not give a 'pet name'
Give her a name which cannot be broken into 2 parts.
Think of a nice name and call her by that throughout her life.
There are so many beautiful short names.

I don't know? What does she remind you of? Does she look like someone else you know? Does she do something very cute that just makes you think of something? More than likely, she won't like her name too much once she grows up, but at the same time, if it isn't too crazy, she won't mind it either. Like i know this guy, his name is Joshua, and his mom calls him 'biscuit', and he totally hates that! But like me, my name is Chanteyl (shen-tall) and my nickname has always been Chani (Shan-ee), and i don't love it, but i don't mind it either. Like my friends from around my neighborhood and stuff can call me it, but my friends from school are forbidden to. Maybe you could just try some different names out on her, and see which one sticks. Like my daddy calls me "little bit", because i am a little bit of him, and a little bit of my mom. but only HE can call me that. Trial and error, i am still trying to figure a good nickname for my nephew, he is going to be 6mos on Feb. 9. Well, good Luck!

My parents gave me a "cute" nickname when I was little. I HATE it! It was alright until I got to be around 15, but they still try to call me by that and peopole in the grocery store, mall, post office look at me like "you poor woman," and shake their heads in pity. It makes me feel like a five year old! Do your kid a favor, don't be like that. My name is Rebecca so my co-workers call me Becca. One customer call me Bright eyes. When she gets in school she will get a nick name or two put on her. That will be bad enough.

Why don't you just use her real name and come up with a nick name from that. I hope your baby is bringing lots of blessings to the family, good luck and God bless!

Why do you want a nickname? If you give her a nickname isn't that like saying you don't like her given name? Not to be rude but I think you should forget the nickname idea.

I call my child by her given name even though there are many nicknames for it. Just call her by her name and watch her personality, and decide on a nickname later.

Well it would help if you give us her name then we can figure out what's the best nickname that goes well with her name. Maybe you can ask this question again with her name.
